A gang of armed robbers stormed a church mid-service to rob before abducting the deacon.

In a viral video, the pastor of the Ghanaian Church of Pentecost, located in Johannesburg, South Africa, is seen preaching from the pulpit when the armed men make their entrance.

Armed with pistols, they forced the church members to lie on the floor. The robbers went around, taking away members’ mobile phones and valuables at gunpoint.

The robbers then approached the preacher and forced him to lead them to the location where money is kept in the church.

Afterward, the deacon was whisked away by the robbers to an unknown location.

Meanwhile, the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria, in a statement to the Ghanaian Community in South Africa, expressed worry over the incident.

The statement reads: “The attention of the High Commission of the Republic of Ghana has been drawn to an incident in which members of the congregation of the Johannesburg branch of the Ghanaian Church of Pentecost were robbed of their valuables at gunpoint and a Deacon of the church kidnapped during church service.”

According to the High Commission, “The Mission is presently working with the Church in cooperation with the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) to ensure the speedy and safe release and return of the victim to his family. Kindly note that the South African Police is fully focused on the matter and is working hard to ensure the safe return of our compatriots.”

“Mission wishes to advise all members of the Ghanaian community to take necessary/precautions to ensure their safety and well-being and will update the Community of any further developments related to the case” the statement added.

Speaking in an interview with The Punch, Igboho, who keeps cats as pets, stated that the DSS officers indiscriminately fired bullets during the raid, leading to the death of several cats. He denied the rumours that he transformed into a cat to escape capture.

While acknowledging earlier reports alleging that the DSS and soldiers brought three herbalists, killed five cats, and took one away, believing Igboho had transformed, he clarified that the cats were simply caught in the crossfire of the raid.

“It’s true that some cats were killed during the attack,” Igboho explained. “The DSS just kept firing bullets everywhere. I had many cats as pets, and any movement attracted their gunfire.”

He added, “Their mission was clear: either kill me or arrest me and take me to some unknown location. But God is greater than anyone, including the former president. My God and providence put them to shame with that illegal raid. They failed to achieve what they came for. I didn’t turn into a cat to escape.”

This revelation comes just days after the ECOWAS Court of Justice in Abuja ordered the Benin Republic government to pay Igboho a sum of 20 million CFA as compensation for the raid and his illegal detention. Igboho recently regained his freedom in Benin and has since reunited with his family in Germany.

Breaking News: The Nigerian Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of 11 Justices to the Supreme Court bench. Please see the list of recommended Justices below: [LIST]

The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended 11 justices of the Court of Appeal for elevation to the Supreme Court bench.

A statement by the apex court’s Director of Information, Soji Oye, on Wednesday evening said the recommendation was made at the 104th meeting of the council in Abuja.

The recommended candidates would be sworn in after the approval of their recommendation by President Bola Tinubu and the subsequent confirmation of their appointment by the Senate.

With this appointment, the apex court will have the full complement of 21 justices, as envisaged by the Constitution.

Those recommended for appointment to the Supreme Court are:

Hon. Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, OFR
Hon. Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa
Hon. Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme
Hon. Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani
Hon. Justice Moore Aseimo A. Adumein
Hon. Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya
Hon. Justice Stephen Jonah Adah
Hon. Justice Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru
Hon. Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur
Hon. Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar
Hon. Justice Mohammed Baba Idris

The NJC at its last meeting for the year also recommended the appointment of Justice Mohammed Ramat to the Court of Appeal, as well as six heads of courts and 26 other judicial officers.

The various Heads of Court recommended would also be sworn in upon the approval of their appointment by their various State Governors and subsequent confirmation of same by their respective State Houses of Assembly.

Breaking News: Information on a meeting between Tinubu and Benin’s President Talon has been revealed.

On Wednesday, the President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, visited Nigerian President Bola Tinubu at the State House in Abuja. The two leaders discussed ways to improve trade relations between their countries.

In a statement released by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu acknowledged the lack of cooperation between Nigeria and Benin Republic, which he said had been hindering mutual development. He emphasized the importance of economic synergy between the two nations for West African economic prosperity.

Tinubu referred to Nigeria and Benin Republic as “conjoined twins held together at the hip” and called for common economic principles and priorities. He welcomed the economic programme being developed through inter-ministerial collaboration and pledged support for private sector interests to facilitate prosperity in both countries.

President Talon sought President Tinubu’s support on improving trade relations between their countries ahead of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Summit. He emphasized the importance of free movement of people and goods between Nigeria and Benin Republic.

Talon also highlighted the need for a revised investment programme that factors in all aspects of the Nigerian economy. He proposed the establishment of an inter-ministerial technical committee to prepare a draft document for their legislatures. Talon expressed readiness to sign an executive order to appoint members of the council to advance mutually beneficial cooperation across sectors.

The two leaders also discussed the issue of smuggling and coordination efforts to ensure the protection of each other’s interests as their economies integrate.
