The conflict between Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Mr. Shaibu, continues as the Governor has reportedly allocated the Deputy Governor’s official SUV to the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Despite public declarations of reconciliation between Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, recent actions by the governor suggest an ongoing rift, raising doubts about the proclaimed forgiveness and restoration of their relationship....Click Here To Continue Reading>>

The duo had been at odds over Shaibu’s aspirations for the governorship in the forthcoming election, resulting in a legal injunction obtained by Shaibu against Obaseki and others.

Although public apologies were tendered and forgiveness declared after interventions by party and religious leaders, signs of discord persist, according to a report by The News.

The report noted that Shaibu’s noticeable absence at key government events, including the swearing-in ceremonies of officials in Edo North senatorial district and sports activities, reflects the alleged continuing marginalization of the deputy governor within the government.

Reports suggest Shaibu has been excluded from critical government functions, including Bendel Insurance FC, which reportedly impacts the team’s fortunes.

A recent alleged incident of humiliation involves the supposed reassignment of a Toyota Landcruiser, purchased specifically for the deputy governor’s use, to the State House Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku.

An anonymous government source quoted in the report said:

“In the second tenure, the same vehicle allocated to the deputy governor about seven years ago is yet to be replaced.

“It was because of this that it became obvious when the governor handed the Speaker a Toyota Landcruiser and a Toyota Hilux instead of a Lexus sports utility vehicle that was approved for him.

“The Toyota Landcruiser was allegedly bought for the use of the deputy governor approximately three months ago as a replacement for the one given to him seven years ago.”

The source described the incident as unfortunate that the governor deliberately denied his deputy the vehicle, which was budgeted and bought in his name for a second tenure.

The Kano State Police Command has issued a warning to leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the Supreme Court judgment on the 2023 governorship election appeal. The Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Usaini Gumel, urged the party leaders to ensure peace and tranquility during and after the Supreme Court judgment. He also assured residents of their safety, stating that the police and sister security agencies have devised comprehensive security plans to protect lives and property during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

CP Gumel said, “We are committed to updating you on the security situation of the state, particularly regarding the safety of lives and property. We have also thwarted attempts by faceless political groups who intended to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in Kano.”

He commended the leadership of both NNPP and APC for upholding the peace accord signed on three separate occasions. He further added that the police command had adequately attended to several plots by some faceless political pressure groups who are hell-bent on fomenting trouble and stamping the general security situation of the state from being as peaceful as it is now.

The heads of the joint security agencies meeting was held at the Police Headquarters on Friday, December 8, 2023. The security situation was reviewed and the security arrangements agreed upon to be put in place to ensure no breakdown of law and order before, during or after the state governorship Supreme Court verdict. In addition, the meeting addressed some emerging security concerns with the leadership of both NNPP, the APC and some selected local council chairmen.

Special counsel investigates Hunter Biden for tax evasion and lavish spending

Hunter Biden, the son of US President Joe Biden, has been indicted on Thursday with nine charges, including three felonies. He is accused of avoiding paying more than $1 million in taxes while living an extravagant and hard-partying lifestyle for four years.

The three felonies against President Biden’s 53-year-old son carry a maximum penalty of 17 years in prison if he is convicted on all counts. One count of tax evasion is for his personal taxes in 2018, and two counts of filing a false return are for his personal taxes in 2018 and for his company Owasco, PC’s corporate income tax return.

Hunter Biden has also been charged with six misdemeanor counts of failure to pay and failure to file for the tax years of 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Joe Biden

“The Defendant engaged in a four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019,” special counsel David Weiss wrote in the 56-page indictment out of the Central District of California.

“In furtherance of that scheme,” Weiss noted that Hunter “subverted the payroll and tax withholding process of his own company, Owasco, PC by withdrawing millions from Owasco, PC” and “spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills.”

Hunter spent his cash on “drugs, escorts and girlfriends, luxury hotels and rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other items of a personal nature, in short, everything but his taxes,” according to the indictment.

Weiss highlighted that Biden used a business line of credit to make more than $27,000 in payments to a porn site, “which in total accounted for one-fifth of all of the business line of credit expenditures.”

The porn payments were among nearly $189,000 the first son spent on “adult entertainment” while not paying taxes, according to Weiss, including a $10,000 payment for a sex club membership that he expensed as a “golf club membership.”

He also claimed a false deduction for “consulting” that was “in truth and in fact” payments to “various women who were either romantically involved with or otherwise performing personal services” for Biden.

More than $680,000 went to these women while Biden wasn’t paying taxes.

“When he did finally file his 2018 returns, [Hunter] included false business deductions in order to evade assessment of taxes to reduce the substantial tax liabilities he faced as of February 2020,” the special counsel added.

Judge Mark Scarsi, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, has been assigned the case.

The scandal-scarred first son is already facing three felony counts related to false statements he made when purchasing a firearm. Weiss brought those charges against him in September, after a June plea deal fell apart in a Delaware courtroom.

Hunter has pleaded not guilty to all charges. He faces a maximum of 25 years in prison in the gun case.

IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley claims Biden avoided paying taxes on $8.3 million in income he received between 2014 and 2019, a period during which he sat on the board of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma Holdings and the Chinese private equity fund BHR Partners.

During the plea hearing, prosecutors noted to US District Judge Maryellen Noreika that the agreement did not preclude bringing charges against Biden later for other alleged crimes — such as possible violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has responded to allegations of a plot by the party and the Kwankwasiya Movement to take over the Supreme Court and foreign embassies in Nigeria. The NNPP has dismissed the allegations as a fabrication created by a coalition of some civil society organizations....Click Here To Continue Reading>>

According to the party’s acting national chairman, Abba Ali, “The allegations made by the so-called coalition are laughable and show how far the opposition in Kano State is willing to go to create lies in its desperation to gain power by any means necessary. The All Progressives Congress is aware that it has no case at the Supreme Court and has allegedly resorted to blackmail, intimidation, and falsehoods to mislead unsuspecting members of the public, the judiciary, and security agencies to take the mandate that the good people of Kano State freely gave to the NNPP.”

Ali also stated that the party has faith in the judiciary as the temple of justice and a beacon of hope for aggrieved citizens. He added that as a law-abiding political party, the NNPP is resolute and strongly determined to protect and defend its mandate across the country and will resist any attempt to subvert the will of the people. “The ballot is sacrosanct, and the mandate of the people is not negotiable or for sale,” Ali emphasized.

The NNPP has also stated that it is not in coalition with the PDP or any political party. In a separate statement signed by the chairman on Friday, the party said, “The party leadership has been made aware of reports of a coalition formed by the party and some political parties, and we wish to clarify that there is no such thing.”
