President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to launch an electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System, as well as a Geospatial Data Repository on Wednesday. The system will encompass all civil registrations such as birth registration, stillbirth registration, birth attestation, adoption, marriage notification, divorce notification, migration, and death. The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Nasir Kwarra, revealed this during a pre-launch briefing in Abuja on Monday, November 6th, 2023....Click Here To Continue Reading>>

Ā

According to Kwarra, the launch of the e-CRVS by Tinubu shows the current government’s commitment to enhance the capturing, collation, processing, dissemination, and timely access to statistics on vital events in the country. The e-CRVS aims to improve civil registration and vital statistics systems in Nigeria over the next ten years, from 2023 to 2030, in a bid to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal.

Ā

The NPC Chairman further pointed out that the commission, in partnership with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), developed the e-CRVS Operational Readiness Assessment Report. The report shows the potential of digital technologies in providing transformative outcomes in CRVS and integrating data from multiple systems to securely store data at scale, in a cost-effective way in Nigeria.

Ā

The system provides a digital certificate in all cases, an accessible verification platform to registered organizations, and a central management system (dashboard), which depicts and analyses the collated civil registrations into vital statistics for effective decision-making.

Atiku has demanded transparency from Tinubu regarding his records, but he has refused to release his academic records.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has refused to provide copies of his academic records, despite previously leading a legal battle to obtain President Bola Tinubu’s records. Atiku had successfully compelled Chicago State University (CSU) in the United States to release Tinubu’s academic records in October 2023, which he claimed were forged. He argued that this transparency was necessary to ensure ethical standards in Nigerian public service....Click Here To Continue Reading>>

Ā

Premium Times Newspaper submitted a formal request to Atiku on October 3, 2023, requesting copies of his academic certificates from primary school to university level, including his Master’s degree certificate. However, Atiku has yet to provide the requested information, despite acknowledging both letters and promises of a prompt response from his spokesperson, Mr. Paul Ibe.

Ā

Premium Times commended Atiku’s pursuit of Tinubu’s records and argued that ā€œtransparency and honestyā€ are crucial for public officials. They further suggested that by providing his own records, Atiku could demonstrate his commitment to these same principles.

Ā

While Atiku’s early life and education are partially documented, gaps remain, and controversy has surrounded his academic records, particularly the West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate issued to ā€œSiddiq Abubakar.ā€ Atiku’s refusal to provide his complete academic records contrasts sharply with his prior demands for transparency from President Tinubu.

Ā

Atiku had accused his rival in the 2023 presidential election, Mr Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), of forgery of a certificate from CSU. Atiku had questioned the copy of the Chicago State University (CSU) certificate Mr Tinubu presented to INEC as evidence of his educational qualification to run for the highest political office in Nigeria. However, the Supreme Court of Nigeria, in its judgement on 26 October, entirely dismissed Atiku’s appeal, refusing to admit the documents from the US in evidence on the grounds that Atiku did not plead the allegation of forgery in his petition to the election tribunal.

Shettima gave that assurance on Friday when he hosted a traditional ruler of Mangu in Plateau State, the Mishkahan Mwaghavul, John Hirse, who led a team on a courtesy visit to his office at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Vice President assured the delegation that peace would be restored in Mangu in the shortest possible time, noting that President Tinubu is aware of the situation and therefore the inevitable return of peace to all troubled areas of the country.

He stated: ā€œThe crisis in Plateau State has nothing to do with religion. It is only right that we understand ourselves and live peacefully with each other. Plateau State is a land blessed with Muslims and Christians. What unites us replaces what divides us.

Senator Dino Melaye, who was the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last election in Kogi State, has denied rumors that he received N3 billion from Atiku Abubakar and businessman Aliko Dangote. Speaking at a dinner organized by members of his campaign organization in Abuja, Melaye dismissed the report as fake news spread by his detractors and mischief makers. The former senator also said that he did not collect N1 billion from Atiku and N2 billion from Dangote as was being speculated. He further discussed three lessons he learned from contesting the election....Click Here To Continue Reading>>

According to Melaye, the first lesson is that the east now knows they cannot become governor alone. They will have to collaborate with other zones to become governors. The second lesson is for those from the west. Melaye said that next time, they should listen to the words of wisdom from their elders and not from commercialized characters who create problems for them because, at the end of the day, what their elders have been saying that this will be the worst election for them is eventually what happened. Finally, Melaye stressed that unity was required within the PDP family in the state, especially in Kogi West, for the party to win any election.

Melaye declared that it was against the political interest of the party for Kogi West or any zone in the state to field more than one candidate in such a critical election. He also expressed his gratitude to God and the leaders who supported him throughout the campaign. According to him, they did not experience any gunshots or killings during the campaign, and he thanked everyone for their support.

Melaye further claimed that there was no governorship election in Kogi State.
