The Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Usaini Gumel, urged the party leaders to ensure peace and tranquility during and after the Supreme Court judgment. He also assured residents of their safety, stating that the police and sister security agencies have devised comprehensive security plans to protect lives and property during the Christmas and New Year festivities.
CP Gumel said, “We are committed to updating you on the security situation of the state, particularly regarding the safety of lives and property. We have also thwarted attempts by faceless political groups who intended to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in Kano.”
He commended the leadership of both NNPP and APC for upholding the peace accord signed on three separate occasions. He further added that the police command had adequately attended to several plots by some faceless political pressure groups who are hell-bent on fomenting trouble and stamping the general security situation of the state from being as peaceful as it is now.
The heads of the joint security agencies meeting was held at the Police Headquarters on Friday, December 8, 2023. The security situation was reviewed and the security arrangements agreed upon to be put in place to ensure no breakdown of law and order before, during or after the state governorship Supreme Court verdict. In addition, the meeting addressed some emerging security concerns with the leadership of both NNPP, the APC and some selected local council chairmen.
