The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has stated that the defeat of Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Kogi State gubernatorial election, should serve as a lesson for Governor Ademola Adeleke. According to a statement signed by the state APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, Adeleke’s inability to secure a win for the PDP in Kogi despite being the campaign chairman is a sign of his political incompetence.

Lawal added that Adeleke’s loss in Kogi should alert the people of Osun State to prepare to vote him out of office in the 2026 governorship election. “The Kogi State gubernatorial election results should serve as a metaphorical mirror for Adeleke, reflecting his political inadequacy,” Lawal said. “With Melaye’s defeat, the outcome in Kogi State this year might reflect the scenario in Osun State’s 2026 governorship election.”...Click Here To Continue Reading>>

Lawal accused Adeleke of relying on luck and political tactics to manipulate the will of the electorate in his victory in the Osun State governorship election. He also said that Adeleke’s victory came at a high cost, with over 30 innocent APC members losing their lives due to PDP-related violence.

“Currently, there is no escape for you, Adeleke, and your allies,” Lawal said. “My party, the APC, will use all constitutional means to dislodge you from office in the 2026 governorship elections.”

Lawal also urged Adeleke to distribute the Federal Government’s N9 billion fuel subsidy removal palliative to the people of Osun State immediately, warning that he will face resistance from the conscious members of society if he delays the distribution until the first anniversary of his administration in a few days.

He added that in 2026, voters will use their cards to vote Adeleke out.

It was reported that an alliance was formed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples Allied Movement (PAM), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), on Wednesday in Abuja at the National Secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

In response, Felix Morka, the APC national publicity secretary, said, “We are not concerned about that.” He added, “Whatever they (opposition) do is their business, and they should justify themselves before Nigerians.”

Morka acknowledged the APC’s own formation from various parties in 2013 but said the party would not be distracted by the new move by the “opposition elements.”

This follows a proposal made in November by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the opposition to unite due to concerns about the country’s potential slide into a one-party state.

Atiku questioned the rationale behind converting a climate change conference into what he described as a “jamboree, all-comers, and ‘owambe’ party” with over 1,400 delegates. He characterized the situation as ridiculous and indicative of a governance approach lacking awareness and responsibility.

The statement highlighted the pressing economic hardships faced by Nigeria, emphasizing the need for leaders to align their actions with the available resources. Atiku criticized the use of borrowed funds for what he termed a “street party” held outside the country, calling attention to the disparity between the purpose of COP

During a media briefing with journalists on Friday night, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State disclosed plans to increase the salaries of state workers on the economic realities of the state. He revealed that he is working with stakeholders to enhance the minimum wage and will soon announce a comprehensive package to this effect....Click Here To Continue Reading>>

The governor explained that the need to adjust the minimum wage was prompted by recent exchange rate convergence, the removal of fuel subsidies, and the increasing inflation rate, which is currently at about 30%.

“We understand that times are tough for many people,” Otti said. “As such, we are working with stakeholders to find ways to improve the remuneration of civil servants in line with the current economic realities.”

Otti addressed allegations that his government had exaggerated food expenses, calling them unfounded and the work of hatchet men.

“That is not true. It is the work of hatchet men,” said Otti. “The truth is that we are very prudent in how we manage funds.”

On the issue of Modern Ceramics Umuahia, the Governor said that preliminary work did not support bringing the industry back to its current location and that they are considering moving it closer to the source of raw materials.

“We are studying and revalidating them. We do not want any industry to collapse,” he added.

Otti also addressed concerns about the higher number of opposition party members at the state House of Assembly, saying that he does not foresee any problems with them as they are there for oversight and to support the government.

The governor reiterated his commitment to paying pension arrears in the state and ensuring that recently retired permanent secretaries and directors receive their arrears of salaries and gratuities.

“We are already working towards improving remuneration, not just for the minimum wage but also across the board,” Otti said. “We will make an announcement to that effect in due course.”
