Barry was a retired federal judge who served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 1999 to 2019. She was one of the first female prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in New Jersey and was appointed to the federal bench in 1983 by President Ronald Reagan.
Barry was a close confidante of her brother, but she was also critical of him at times. In 2019, she was implicated in a judicial misconduct inquiry into the Trump family’s tax affairs, but she retired before the inquiry could be concluded.
