Even an arguable equalizer could not keep Turkey from winning. The Czech Republic seemed to have a chance of an unexpected qualification for a long time, but ultimately had to leave the European Championship empty-handed. Soucek erased Calhanoglu’s opener, Tosun still caused Turkish delirium. It means end of story for the Czechs. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

Czech Republic – Turkey in a nutshell

  • Man of the Match

Referee Istvan Kovacs set an amazing record with eighteen yellow and two red cards. We are still waiting for an official report from UEFA to confirm this, because it will take some time to investigate the Hungarian’s administration.

  • Key moment

Only deep into the added time can the Turks breathe a sigh of relief. Substitute Cenk Tosun completely knocks out the deadly tired Czechs with a strike in the bottom corner.

  • Czech bad luck

Things were not going well for the Czechs at this tournament. An own goal and an unfortunate late goal against Portugal, a penalty against Georgia and an early red and an injured goalkeeper against Turkey. How much unhappiness can you have?

  • Disorganized chaos in Hamburg

Turkey was able to advance even with a small defeat, but national coach Montella took no risks. He made seven changes and brought on Güler to kick off. The Czechs, who absolutely had to win, managed without Schick in attack.

The first half brought ‘unorganized chaos’, as Hein Vanhaezebrouck called it during halftime. The Czech Republic looked for consistency in its game, Turkey, as always, sought disorder and confusion. It created chances on both sides, Hranac nodded the best over.

Barak’s exclusion, due to two very stupid yellow cards, changed the match. The Czech Republic was forced to retreat en masse and thus prevented the Turks from having great scoring opportunities. It was the most dangerous itself, but Jurasek was unable to complete a blitz counter.

Shortly after half-time, Calhanoglu struck with a wonderful instep kick. To make matters worse for the Czechs, goalkeeper Stanek dropped out with an injury. Güler failed to beat his replacement Kovar from close range.

That cost him and all of Turkey dearly when Soucek nailed the equalizer into the net shortly afterwards. Chory seemed to have committed a foul on goalkeeper Günok in the preparation, but referee Kovacs and VAR saw no problem with it. Incidentally, the match management gradually lost its bearings. In a fierce match, yellow cards rained down.

Football was also played in the madhouse in Hamburg. The Turks had to sweat until deep into the added time, but then Tosun blasted his country to redemption and the eighth finals. This affects Austria. The Czechs return to Prague with one meager point.

    Phase by phase

While the stewards chase a field stormer, Kovacs continues to deal out cards. The man has completely lost track.

Things boil over after the Czech Republic-Turkey match

    Last!

After a particularly eventful match, it is Turkey that advances to second in the group. Ten Czechs put up a lot of resistance, but the tournament is over for them.

Then anyway! Tosun walks through the Czech defense and scores the 1-2 in the end

    Tosun liberates Turkey!

Now the tension is gone! Tosun dispels Turkish doubts and definitively pushes the Czechs out of the tournament. He gets space to shoot and finds the bottom corner.

Turkey is putting pressure on the slot

    It’s still nail-biting here!

An extra 6 minutes will be added.

Tosun incurs the anger of the fans by miserably responding to the free Ayhan. He needs to do much better with this.

Nice volley from Yokuslu zooms over

Cuban Player Ismael Romero Qualifies for Paris 2024 Olympics with Puerto Rican Team: A Historic Moment for Caribbean Basketball

    Published

At the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris 2024, Cuba will once again not have teams participating in basketball tournaments, an absence that spans the entire 21st century and, in the men’s category, is longer, since Moscow 1980.

However, there will be representation of Cuban players at the grand event and this was confirmed in the last few hours, after the qualification of the Puerto Rican men’s team, with Villa Clara native Ismael Romero as a key piece in this success.

“El Cubanazo,” as he is known, was part of the Puerto Rican team that won the 4th Intercontinental Pre-Olympic Tournament, held last week in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

There, the hosts beat Italy and Bahrain in the group stage. In the semi-finals, they beat Mexico 98-78 and in the final, they beat Lithuania 79-68, a team that included Domantas Sabonis, an athlete with an excellent track record in the NBA and active in that circuit with the Sacramento Kings.

In the decisive match, Ismael remained on the court for 18:17 minutes, with two points, four rebounds (divided equally between offensive and defensive), one steal, one block and 50% effectiveness in field goals.

The Cubanazo will contribute to the history of basketball in Puerto Rico

With this victory, the Puerto Ricans return to men’s basketball at the Olympic Games, something that had not happened for twenty years, in Athens 2004. Another striking note is that it was the first time that they beat two European countries in the same tournament since the World Cup in the United States in 2002.

Continuing with the feat of the Island of Enchantment, it will be the first time that it will have representation in the same Olympic Games in both men’s and women’s basketball. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

In the French competition, the men’s quintet will compete in Group C, alongside Serbia, South Sudan and the United States. There they will seek to achieve the best possible performance, counting on their ranks an exponent from a nation with which they share many elements, Cuba.

LeBron James Makes Financial Sacrifice for Lakers, Misses Out on Free Agency Targets

    Published

    on

    By

For the first time in 14 years, LeBron James will not be paid the maximum salary, and his two million “financial sacrifice” will allow the Lakers to recruit, and to avoid being limited by the new collective agreement. For him, it was normal to make this gesture since it benefits the team, and therefore him in the end.

“It’s because we’re in a relationship, and anyone who knows relationships knows it’s all about commitment,” he told ESPN. « It’s also about doing things to help both sides. We’ve been working together for seven years… That’s why.”

This “sacrifice” allowed the Lakers to take advantage of a “mid-level exception” at $12.9 million, and the Lakers thought they could position themselves on James Harden, Klay Thompson, DeMar DeRozan and Jonas Valanciunas. To no avail, none of them came!

    A virtually unchanged group

“It takes two to tango,” illustrates LeBron James about the Lakers’ failed approaches. “Our front office and our staff have tried things or tried to bring guys in, and it hasn’t happened. And that’s OK. That’s part of the business. I’ve been in this business long enough to know that sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. We’re not going to sit here and whine or lie. We’re moving forward. Klay’s a great player. DeMar’s obviously a great player. Valanciunas was one of those players, and he ended up going to Washington. He was someone that was in talks with us… But we’re moving forward to see how we can get better. I’m looking forward to this fall.”

In the end, the Lakers didn’t sign any free agents, but LeBron James is happy to leave with the same group. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

” Of course “, he responds about the Lakers’ potential to play for the title. “Because we’ve done it before. We’ve done it before and we still have two guys that are committed every day, with AD and me. We’re committed to excellence and winning. And we believe that in any situation, in any year, we can put ourselves in a position to succeed. And we’re not that far off. A year ago, we were in the conference finals. Sure, this year, it didn’t go as well as last year. It didn’t go as well as we wanted it to, but we’re not that far off. Sure, there’s so many teams in the West, but we’re not that far off.”

Mid-level exception : envelope of approximately $13 million that is available each year to recruit all NBA franchises that do not pay luxury tax. They can use it on one or more players. A team that must pay the luxury tax only has $5.2 million. Since 2023/24, if a team significantly exceeds the high bar of the salary cap (by more than $17.5 million), it loses its “mid-level exception”
