St. Louis Cardinals Dominate Washington Nationals’ Backup in 6-0 Victory

Summary

The St. Louis Cardinals made life difficult for the Washington Nationals’ backup Monday night, en route to a convincing 6-0 victory. St. Louis has won three of four games in the series against the Nationals.

Since May 12, Mother’s Day, the Cardinals have the second-best record in the majors at 33 wins and 18 losses. Only the Cleveland Guardians (32-16) have done better.

Between them, Nationals relievers Jacob Barnes and Joan Adon allowed five hits and four runs in just two innings of work, seeing the Cardinals pull away late in the game.

Paul Goldschmidt and Alec Burleson homered in the win. Burleson hit two safeties and drove in three runs in the win.

Goldschmidt, Brendan Donovan, Nolan Gorman and Michael Siani also had two hits in the victory. Donovan reached base in his 21st straight game, the longest active streak in MLB alongside Bryce Harper.

The Nationals were still in the game after seven innings, in which starter Mitchell Parker allowed just six hits and two runs. Goldschmidt’s 12th home run of the season in the fourth inning gave St. Louis a 2-0 lead.

In relief in the eighth inning, Barnes allowed the Cardinals to increase their lead when he gave up a solo homer to Burleson and a one-run double to Donovan.

Burleson came back in the ninth with a single that extended the Cardinals’ lead to six runs.

A young badminton player realizes his deceased father’s dream

Despite the tragedy, the teenager continues to carry his family’s dreams: Gautham Sumesh won the provincial championships this year and is preparing to participate in the National Championship in New Brunswick.
