New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Monday he wasn’t considering changing his quarterback to play No. 3 overall draft pick Drake Maye after reviewing videos of New England’s loss. 30-13 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Nine-year veteran Jacoby Brissett will therefore continue to be the starter for the Patriots (1-3), who will face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

It was the kind of mistake Brissett had avoided in the first three games of the season, leading some to wonder if the mistake, coupled with the offensive woes, could force Mayo to consider a quarterback change.
Mayo immediately said after the game that he hadn’t anticipated doing so, adding the way Brissett spoke to the team in the locker room as “a good leader.” But Mayo added that he has yet to review the game and that coaches will evaluate all positions. Brissett is 62 for 101 for 536 yards, two touchdowns and one interception this year. He’s faced a lot of pressure, as opponents challenge the Patriots’ undermanned offensive line. The Patriots receivers did not often threaten opposing defenses in the intermediate and deep zone.
Brissett was the victim of 15 sacks and 40 tackles.
In his weekly interview on WEEI radio, Mayo was asked if it was possible he would make a change eventually.
“I think the hardest part is the fans and the media want to see the third overall pick on the field. I understand the frustration. What we do is for the best, in our opinion. I’m doing what I think is best for the Patriots today and in the future,” Mayo said.
