NFL: An absence to be expected for Derek Carr (Saints)

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr injured his oblique muscle during Monday’s loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, a source told ESPN.

A test taken Tuesday confirmed Carr’s oblique injury, according to the source. The quarterback had said he thought he was injured throwing an incomplete pass late in the 26-13 loss, but needed further testing to confirm.

Oblique injuries generally result in absences of several weeks. The Saints play two games in 10 days: Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and October 17 against the Denver Broncos as part of “Thursday Night Football”. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

If Carr can’t play, he will be replaced by rookie Spencer Rattler or Jake Haener. Haener replaced Carr against the Chiefs.

“It wasn’t like I had to deal with the pain. I just can’t do what I want to do,” he said after the meeting.

Carr suffered four significant injuries in New Orleans, although he didn’t miss any playing time last year.

Jan Joost van Gangelen Questions Dutch National Team Player’s Position: Is It Time for a Tactical Shift?

Jan Joost van Gangelen does not really see a number 9 in Joshua Zirkzee, the presenter says during the review of Hungary – Oranje at ESPN. Hans Kraay junior does not completely agree with the words of his colleague.

Kraay junior, if he had been in the shoes of the national coach, would have made a substitution at half time. “I would like it if Zirkzee gets a little support in the point and that you add (Brian, ed.) Brobbey and he can roam around it a bit.”

“Zirkzee is not targetman and you shouldn’t expect that from him,” Kraay junior makes an impassioned plea for the striker. “He is a very graceful number 9 who can play excellent football with a little space.” Van Gangelen does not agree with his colleague’s praise.

The presenter points to the shirt number that the Manchester United striker wears with the Dutch national team. “He has jersey number 10 on his back and that always says enough to me, because it might be more than that,” Van Gangelen refers to the position of the attacking midfielder. “He’s not real targetmanbut he is not 10 either,” Kraay junior argues. “He is a nice 9.5, but tonight he was not.” Van Gangelen draws a comparison with other Dutch strikers: Brobbey and Wout Weghorst.

“When they come in there is a kind of eagerness, with some number 9s you see that determination. With Zirkzee you always think: that’s a nice player for an indoor football team or beach football, but I don’t know…”

“You cannot expect Zirkzee to stand on the field with steam coming out of his ears and to fight head-to-head duels,” Kraay junior still argues in defense of the striker. “He can function excellently against opponents with more space at the back.”

Before the duel with the DFB selection in the Nations League, the Netherlands cannot get past a draw in Hungary. Orange managed to equalize but were outnumbered.

The Dutch national soccer team botched the dress rehearsal before the duel with Germany on Monday. In Budapest, Oranje did not get more than a 1:1 (0:1) draw against Hungary. National coach Ronald Koeman’s team remains in second place in Group A3 with five points behind Germany with seven points. From the 79th minute onwards, the guests only had ten men on the field because captain Virgil van Dijk had to leave the field with a yellow-red card. The defense chief is also missing in the classic on Monday.

Roland Sallai gave Hungary the lead in the 32nd minute with a volley after a fast counterattack. The former Freiburg striker scored Hungary’s first goal of this Nations League season. The guests’ best chance initially went to Cody Gakpo with an indirect free kick in the penalty area, which Denes Dibusz saved.

Netherlands equalizes with ten men

Despite significantly more possession of the ball and more chances to score, the Dutch had to wait a long time for an equalizer. Denzel Dumfries redeemed his team in the 83rd minute with a header from a free kick. At that point, van Dijk was no longer on the field. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

The game began with a minute’s silence for Johan Neeskens, who died on Sunday. The 49-time Dutch international and goalscorer in the 1974 World Cup final was in Algeria for a coaching project, where he died at the age of 73.
