Edo APC Vice Chairman Resigns From Party Ahead Of September Guber

Chief Francis Inegbeneki

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Chief Francis Inegbeneki, has dumped the party.

Inegbeneki, who holds the position of state vice chairman within the party, expressed that recent developments within the party at both the local government level and in Edo State contradicted his fundamental principles and values.

He disclosed this in a resignation letter dated June 8, 2024.

This political shakeup occurred a few months before the gubernatorial election in Edo State, scheduled for September 21, 2024.

Last year, Inegbeneki faced allegations of organizing clandestine meetings at a hotel in his hometown of Irrua, where he purportedly pledged support to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against the APC during the 2023 House of Assembly election.

This resulted in his expulsion, although he was later pardoned.

In his letter, which was directed to the APC ward chairman in Opoji, Esan Central local government area of Edo State, Inegbeneki, the Uzoya of Esan Land, emphasized that the party’s trajectory compelled him to thoroughly assess his political future in Edo State and determine the appropriate course of action. Inegbeneki said his announcement followed a consultation with his family, friends, and political associates, which informed his decision to formally notify the party of his resignation from APC membership and relinquish his esteemed role as the state vice chairman.

“There comes a time in every man’s life when some hard decisions must be taken not only in one’s interest but in the general interest of his People. This is one of such moments. It is a hard decision, but it is the best in the best interests of the good people of my senatorial district,” Inegbeneki noted.

He advised that a lot needed to be done to reposition the party in the state. Amid mixed feelings, the politician thanked his supporters and followers for their support and loyalty through the years.

However, he was silent on his next political move. The erstwhile APC Edo Central Senatorial leader added that “it is time now to chart a new course for the good of all.”

He emotionally noted, “To all my friends, brothers, and sisters in the All Progressives Congress (APC), I wish you well and want to let you know that we remain what we are.

“I cherish our relationship, and nothing can change it. I believe in the future of Nigeria and the Renewed Hope agenda. Together, we shall continue to work to make progress for our dear state, Edo, and the country at large.”

Speaking to reporters in Kano on Sunday, Kwankwaso expressed concerns over divisive campaigns and criticisms directed at President Tinubu by certain factions within the North, labeling these efforts as detrimental to the region’s long-term interests.

“Patriotic northern politicians must not heed the voices calling for alternative candidates from the South,” Kwankwaso stated. “If another candidate wins in 2027, the North may face an extended eight-year wait for power to return.”

Kwankwaso dismissed claims that the country’s current security challenges should dissuade support for Tinubu. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

He acknowledged the president’s ongoing efforts to address armed banditry and instability, particularly in the North.

Highlighting Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle’s recent progress in countering banditry in the North and Northwest, Kwankwaso called for unity, urging northern politicians to support Tinubu’s administration.

Addressing rumors about former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso potentially running as a vice-presidential candidate with a Southern politician, he cautioned against endorsing such moves, arguing that it would delay power returning to the North until 2035.

He concluded by urging northerners to support Tinubu, stating, “The best assistance we can give President Tinubu is to rally around him with our prayers and efforts to achieve peace in the country.”

Southeast Senators have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to order the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In a closed-door meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbem, SAN, the Senators emphasized the urgent need for Kanu’s release.

Abaribe, speaking on behalf of his colleagues after the meeting, expressed concerns over the deteriorating economic and social conditions in the Southeast, attributing it to Kanu’s continued incarceration.

Abaribe stated that Kanu’s peaceful agitation has been hijacked by criminals, leading to increased violence and loss of lives, including those of security personnel.

He said he met with Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja on Monday, where Kanu agreed to comply with any conditions set for his release.

The former Deputy Governor expressed confidence that releasing Kanu would help to restore peace and stability in the Southeast, which has been troubled since Kanu’s detention in 2021. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

The Senators urged the Attorney General to convey their request to President Tinubu and to use his influence to drop the charges against Kanu.

Abaribe noted that political leaders, religious figures, and stakeholders in the Southeast have unanimously supported Kanu’s release as a necessary step towards peace.

Kanu was re-arrested in Kenya in 2021 and brought back to Nigeria to face terrorism charges.

Despite pleading not guilty, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja denied him bail, citing his previous bail jump in which Abaribe was his surety. Kanu has remained in DSS custody since then.
