IGP Egbetokun Reacts To Call For His Sack By President Tinubu

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has reacted to those calling on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack him.

The IGP on Thursday, during a meeting with commanders in Abuja, said those calling for his sack are entitled to their opinion and he won’t respond to the calls.

Egbetokun, said, “I won’t respond to a call for my removal. Anybody can call for my removal.

“Anybody who doesn’t like me can come out tomorrow and say, remove the IG. That’s not a problem. We are all entitled to our opinion.”



Recall that the Police Force had, in a statement on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, alleged that the recently released names of successful candidates in the ongoing 2022/23 Police Constables Recruitment Exercise conducted by the Police Service Commission (PSC) were marred with irregularities and corruption.

The force, therefore, rejected the list.

In response to the IGP allegations, the Joint Union Congress of the Police Service Commission (PSC), urged President Bola Tinubu to dismiss the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, citing alleged interference in the recent recruitment of police constables.

Gunmen Kidnap Driver And 18 Passengers In Rivers-bound Bus

According to reports, the gunmen carried out the abduction along the Azumini boundary between Akwa Ibom and Abia states last Wednesday, July 10.

A driver and 18 passengers of a Port Harcourt-bound Akwa Ibom State Transport Corporation bus, have been abducted by gunmen.

Eyewitnesses say the gunmen had ambushed the bus shortly after it left its Uyo terminal and was passing through Iwukem in the Etim Local Council Area. The gunmen shot into the air before abducting their victims.

Confirming the incident, the Akwa Ibom State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, said the police were still monitoring the situation.

“That incident happened along the Azumini area of the road after the Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. All I can say is that the police are still monitoring the situation now,” the PPRO said.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has cancelled the conduct of aptitude tests for 2024 Direct Entry candidates.

Bauchi Governor Swears In 21 New Judges

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, swore in six new judges to the State High Court and 15 to the Shari’a Court, on Monday, July 15.

He charged them to embody justice and fairness in their judicial responsibilities.

Highlighting the importance of the judiciary in fostering the rule of law, Governor Mohammed tasked the new appointees to serve justice without bias and adhere strictly to the principles of fairness and equity.

Moreover, the governor highlighted the pressing issue of overcrowded correctional facilities in the state, calling on the judges to focus on decongesting these facilities by prioritizing cases of inmates long awaiting trial, to expedite their proceedings and ensure timely delivery of justice.

The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Umar, responding to the governor’s charges, assured that the new judges are committed to upholding justice and fairness.

She reiterated the judiciary’s dedication to the speedy trial of cases as a measure to decongest correctional facilities, reinforcing the judiciary’s role as a beacon of hope for the populace.
