MADRID, 22 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Basque cyclist Usoa Ostolaza, from Laboral Kutxa-Fundación Euskadi, won the title this Saturday in the Spanish Online Championship, held over 116.8 kilometers in San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid), after a great race of all her team and that has given the second place to the Balearic Yurani Blanco in that absolute category, along with the gold of the also Basque Eneritz Vadillo in the under-23 category.
The test, started at 9:20 a.m. from the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo, had the same place for its conclusion and had more than 1,800 meters of elevation gain. This was the result of doing three laps of a long loop that led the runners through Valdemorillo and Navalagamella, from where they made the ascent to Fresnedilla de la Oliva in each of the turns, until they returned again to San Lorenzo de El Escorial and began the two laps of the short circuit.
In this final loop they found the hard slopes of the Abantos slopes which, as expected, ended up being the decisive point of the competition. In the initial stages, there were multiple attacks without any of them gaining a significant advantage.
It was around kilometer 27 when Laura Martí, from the UPV team, managed to take the lead in the race with about a minute ahead. At the beginning of the second climb to Fresnedilla de la Oliva, Mireia Benito moved with a small group of runners and thanks to this they put an end to Martí’s adventure, who was succeeded at the front by Violeta Hernández, Isabel Ferreres and Susana Pérez.
The first relevant movement of the day was carried out by Naia Amondarain (Laboral Kutxa), Ariana Gilabert (Eneicat), Mireia Trias (Massi) and Lucía Ruiz (Movistar), who during the halfway point of the race enjoyed almost a minute and a half of advantage. His adventure lasted until Mavi García made her second acceleration of the day to sift through the peloton and neutralize the cyclists who opened the race. From then on, the last hour became an exercise in resistance for Mavi García, suffocating the attempts of the Movistar Team and Laboral Kutxa. Lucía Ruiz returned to the attack and in the first instance she achieved seconds of profit, which were soon neutralized to give way to one of the great protagonists of the day: Yurani Blanco.
The Spaniard from Laboral Kutxa made a strong commitment to win in the last 20 km, a move that earned her more than 1:30 of advantage and complicated Mavi García, Mireia Benito, Sara Martín and Usoa Ostolaza. They formed the chasing group, which on the ramps at the foot of Abantos reduced the difference to 20 seconds.
Arriving at the cobbled slope before the finish line, already in the last kilometer, Mavi García caught Yurani Blanco and released all of her companions except Ostolaza. The Balearic woman took meters ahead of the two Laboral Kutxa cyclists, but in the last section of the climb she began to pay for her previous efforts.
Ostolaza, at pace, managed to catch her and release her to become champion. Blanco completed the double for the Basque team while the bronze went to García, who was already down and who by a few meters resisted the push of Sara Martín, who had been sprinting until finishing fourth.
