Despite a good opening set, tennis player Jule Niemeier lost her round of 16 match at the Bad Homburg Open. This means that no German is left in the tournament.

Jule Niemeier is the last German to be eliminated from the tennis tournament in Bad Homburg. The 24-year-old from Dortmund lost the round of 16 against the Spaniard Paula Badosa 6:4, 2:6, 1:6 on Tuesday evening. After a successful opening set in a high-class match, Niemeier then lost ground significantly.

Several double faults cost her important points. Badosa’s game, on the other hand, remained consistent. The match ended after 1:51 hours because Niemeier committed her twelfth double fault of the match on the match point of the former world number two.

The Spaniard was clearly the better player, especially in the third set on the Centre Court in Bad Homburg. In the first round of the WTA grass court tournament, Niemeier had surprisingly defeated the top seeded Greek Maria Sakkari. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

Meanwhile, the 15-year-old Julia Stusek (Rheinfelden) was also eliminated in the first round on Tuesday. The young German lost to Peyton Stearns from the USA 2:6, 5:7. For Stusek, it was the first match in a main draw on the WTA tour. The world number 913 had actually failed in the qualification, but then moved into the main draw at short notice as a lucky loser after the Kazakh Yulia Putintseva withdrew.

Wozniacki hits the court in live stream

On Wednesday, HR will also be showing a match live from 4 p.m. – Caroline Wozniacki against Veronika Kudermetova. The tournament in Bad Homburg serves as preparation for the sporting highlight of the grass season in Wimbledon. The Grand Slam event begins next Monday.

Basketball star Franz Wagner has officially extended his contract with NBA club Orlando Magic and becomes one of the highest-paid German athletes in history.

Lebron waives money

This does not correspond to the maximum salary: the four-time NBA champion, who will play for Team USA at the Olympic Games in Paris, is giving up almost three million dollars.

This way, the Lakers save on luxury tax because they do not exceed the salary cap. In addition, the superstar has secured a clause that he can only be traded with his consent.

Carlos Alcaraz has reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon, but had to play for almost three hours in his 6:3, 6:4, 1:6, 7:5 match against the aggressive Frenchman Ugo Humbert. Jannik Sinner won in three sets against Ben Shelton.

Alcaraz thrilled the audience on Centre Court on Sunday (07.07.2024) with his enthusiasm for the game and his usual fast legs, but a loss of tension in the third set cost the defending champion a clear victory.

Humbert then played well and sensed his chance for a surprise. But Alcaraz found his way back on track in the fourth round, and in the end the French Open champion continued his winning streak at Grand Slam tournaments to eleven matches in a row and can still hope for another victory at Church Road. Sinner continues after victory against Shelton in Wimbledon

The semifinals could be a cracker against world number one Jannik Sinner. The Italian beat the 14th seeded American Ben Shelton 6:2, 6.4, 7:6 (11:9) after just over two hours and made it into the quarterfinals for the third time in a row.
