The Big 3 Favorites and Dark Horses: A Look Ahead at Wimbledon 2024

Published

The third Grand Slam of the season is here and it is presented with an uncertain prognosis. Wimbledon 2024 is looking for a champion and there are three players who are above the rest in terms of level of favoritism, such as Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic, if he plays. Behind them are other names ready to surprise.

Nothing can be taken for granted in life, least of all in sport, but many would be shocked if the title of Wimbledon 2024 was going to fall to some player who was not Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz in Novak Djokovic. The Italian arrives full of confidence and is the best player of the year by far, the Spaniard is defending the crown and has shown that his tennis adapts perfectly to this surface, while the Serbian brims with champion intangibles that come to light in these tournaments, even with a knee injury. But is there anyone who can argue with the favoritism of this Big 3?

– Top favorites for the title in the 2024 Wimbledon men’s tournament

Jannik Sinner

When a player appears in an event of this caliber having won 38 of the 41 games he has played so far this season, it would be foolish not to give him a predominant role in terms of favoritism. Alcaraz, on two occasions, and Tsitsipas on one, have been the only ones capable of extinguishing the tennis glow of the world number 1. He has been warning for years about his good performance on grass and the title in Halle reaffirms his ability on this surface. He will arrive hungry for glory after falling in the semifinals of Roland Garros against someone who is already his closest rival.

Carlos Alcaraz

The historic success achieved in Paris can be a double-edged sword for the Murcian. His results after a Grand Slam title were not good in the previous two situations, but it is undeniable that the confidence acquired with his victory at Roland Garros and the natural game he has on grass should relaunch his candidacy. What happened at Queen’s must be interpreted as an understandable accident, which does not affect too much an Alcaraz eager to continue adding Grand Slam titles to his record.

Novak Djokovic

A normal person would not be considered to win this tournament just a few weeks after suffering a meniscus problem, but the Serbian has already shown many times that he does not listen to logic and is capable of performing amazing miracles. He is already training on grass and exploring his options to compete. If he finally decides to do it, it will be time to assume that he is prepared enough to compete for the title. He is superior to almost everyone on grass and treasures that experience and champion intangibles so necessary in this type of events. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

Hubert Hurkacz

While it is true that the Pole does not have the experience in Grand Slam final rounds that others do, his game is the one that wins the most on grass. He arrives at the best moment of his career, located in seventh place in the ranking and with feelings of power that can boost his confidence. He already reached the semifinals at the All England Lawn Tennis three years ago and, if he manages to improve his nerve management in extreme situations, such as tiebreaks against the best in the world, he will be the main alternative to the Big 3.

Daniil Medvedev

The Russian player does not seem to be in a good moment, whose disappointment in Paris has been intensified by his time in Halle. Despite this, a man capable of being world number 1 and lifting a Grand Slam title can never be ruled out. He does not seem to perform very well on grass, but last year he was able to reach the semifinals of Wimbledon, which is why he has to be given the role of fifth favorite for the title in this edition.

Other players with options to surprise

Behind this poker of aces, we can bring together a series of candidates who dream of making a splash and becoming champions at Wimbledon 2024. They have reasons to dream and will want to take the step of becoming difficult obstacles for the best, to presenting consistency necessary to win the tournament. This is the case of Álex de Miñaur, Grigor Dimitrov and Taylor Fritz, whose play on grass is notable, or Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas, whose performance on this surface drops.

Graphic Design Lover and Renowned Bassist Sues New York Jets Over Logo Design

Published

on

By

At 81 years old, Pons has said enough and has sued the New York Jets for using the logo that he himself designed in the late 70s. In addition to being a renowned bassist, Pons is a graphic design loverand he did not hesitate to present one of his drawings when he learned that the Jets were looking for a new image. He worked with them from 1973 to the early 2000s.starting as an assistant to the material manager, a position left behind by a friend who was leaving the city.

From there he went on to work in the Shea Stadiumwhere he became involved in the dynamics of the coaches. Considering that technology was evolving by leaps and bounds and that teams were beginning to make use of it, The Jets couldn’t afford to watch the games three days laterIt was then that Jim’s big opportunity came about, as, coming from California, where he had done small jobs in Hollywood, he was given the task of being in charge of the new “recording laboratory”, as they called it.

After the opportunity to work in the recording studio arose, Pons had a new visionsince the Jets They were looking for an update to their logo and he had it in his head. Until then, the team had worn a simple NY JETS on a football and inside the same oval shape that the ball has, but Jim would change everything: “I worked on the filming team and I had always seen the old design, which It seemed a bit confusing to me with so many letters intertwined; that’s when I heard they were thinking about having a new design and I thought, ‘Maybe I can do something they’ll like because I’m part of the staff and I know the idiosyncrasies of the organization’ and that’s how it all began, lengthening and stylizing the word JETS and inserting an airplane modified on the last few letters. I gave it to them, they liked it and made it the team logo.”

The root of the problem

Jim Pons’ logo over the old Jets logo

It all happened very quickly, organically, and It never occurred to Jim to ask for financial compensation. some to the team for the logo design. Let’s say that, back then, He did it “for the love of art” already some colors; “love” that seems to have forgotten when now JETS are marketing it with great success on their kits, souvenirs and all kinds of merchandising imaginable. It is worth highlighting Pons’ words in a short 8 minute videothat the team posted on their channel Youtube just before the logo was re-installed as the official image: “When I was told that the JETS were thinking about going back to my logo I got surprised; I didn’t know anything about their intentions, or even how popular they were within the fan base, or that they were the ones who asked for their return. It made me feel good and I like it, I think it’s the best logo they’ve ever had. I’m self-taught, I didn’t know how to play bass and I taught myself; I didn’t know how to record movies and I learned and I didn’t know how to design logos, and I got pretty good at it without any help“.

In the lawsuit, Pons claims that the original design of the JETS logo belongs to him and that He was never paid for itand asks that it be immediately removed from the club’s merchandise or that they pay him good financial compensation “now that they are making millions” from it.

Paris 2024 Olympics: 2,500 mobile air conditioners finally ordered for the Olympic village

Planned without air conditioning, the Olympic village, which is to accommodate more than 10,000 athletes during the Paris Olympics, will be adorned with mobile air conditioners, with the delegations having ordered nearly 2,500 units for the 7,000 rooms that will be used, the village’s deputy director assured on Tuesday.

“The goal was really to meet this extremely specific need for athletes who are playing the match or competition of their lives (…) and who may have comfort and recovery requirements that are higher than a standard summer. And so (…) we had about 2,500 air conditioners that were ordered,” assured the deputy director of the village Augustin Tran Van Chau during a press visit.

Two years ago, Anne Hidalgo, the mayor of Paris and president of Solideo, the company responsible for building the village, had nevertheless ruled out the possibility of using mobile air conditioners in the village. “There will be no need for them (…). I have a lot of respect for the comfort of the athletes, but I think much more about the survival of humanity,” she assured France Info in February 2023.

Some delegations worried in case of heatwave

The buildings of the Olympic Village built by Solideo guarantee a difference of -6 degrees compared to the outside temperature. To improve this performance, the organizers added a geothermal system that helps cool the rooms, combined with fans installed in each room. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

However, some delegations have nevertheless expressed their concern in the event of a heatwave, prompting the organising committee to offer them the opportunity to purchase mobile air conditioning units for a fee, through the catalogue of options for equipping the village rooms.

The delegations also have the possibility of coming with their mobile air conditioners: “we gave them guides on technical constraints, in particular for energy consumption and the level A quality of their equipment, to have material that is up to date”, specified Augustin Tran Van Chau.

The deputy director assures that he has encouraged the delegations to take “one air conditioner per dwelling” maximum, but there is no guarantee that this advice will be followed.
