Military insiders have implied that Russia has shot down a US drone over the Black Sea as tensions continue to spike over Ukraine allegedly targeting the Crimean city of Sevastopol with a Washington-supplied ATACMS missile…Click Here To Continue Reading>> …Click Here To Continue Reading>>

Meanwhile, the US is today expected to approve an additional £118 million ($150 million) in critically needed munitions to Ukraine, according to two unnamed US officials.

The Fighterbomber Telegram channel cryptically suggested the US kit had been downed over the key strategic waterway, without providing any specific details.

It posted: “Congratulations to everyone involved. There is now increased turbulence in the Black Sea.

“Let’s see whether it’s on an ongoing basis or whether it was a one-time event.”

Posting on X, Mathias Gjesdal Hammer, a journalist specialising in defence matters who works for the Semafor website, said a US defence official had downplayed the claim, saying: “We have not seen any evidence of this to be factual.”

Russia yesterday summoned the American ambassador to protest what it says was the use of US-made advanced missiles in a Ukrainian attack on Crimea on Sunday which reportedly killed four people and wounded more than 150.

Crimea, which Russian seized from Ukraine in 2014 in a move most of the world rejected as unlawful, has long been regarded as a fair target for Ukraine by its Western allies.

However, the Pentagon said last week that Ukraine’s military is also now allowed to use longer-range missiles provided by the US to strike targets inside Russia if it is acting in self-defence. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

Ukraine attacks Crimea beach, says Russia

Since the outset of the war, the US had maintained a policy of not permitting Ukraine to use the weapons it provided to hit targets on Russian soil for fear of further escalating the conflict.

The continued flow of US munitions, which will be drawn from existing stockpiles, is intended to help Ukrainian forces repel intensified Russian attacks.

The upcoming shipment is expected to include munitions for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, or HIMARS. That system is capable of firing the longer-range missiles from the Army Tactical Missile System, or ATACMS, which Russia has said would prompt retaliation and risk escalating the conflict.

One of the US officials said they could not verify whether this aid package included ATACMS munitions, but said the aid did not include cluster munitions.

The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to provide details that had not yet been made public.

The package also includes anti-armour weapons, small arms and grenades and the highly sought-after 155 mm and 105 mm artillery rounds, among other support.

Speaking yesterday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: The involvement of the United States, the direct involvement, as a result of which Russian civilians are killed, cannot be without consequences

All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Kano State, Ilyasu Musa Kwankwaso has urged northern leaders and politicians to rally behind President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.

He emphasized the strategic benefit of securing the presidency for the North in 2031, Lagos Reporters reports.

Speaking to reporters in Kano on Sunday, Kwankwaso expressed concerns over divisive campaigns and criticisms directed at President Tinubu by certain factions within the North, labeling these efforts as detrimental to the region’s long-term interests.

“Patriotic northern politicians must not heed the voices calling for alternative candidates from the South,” Kwankwaso stated. “If another candidate wins in 2027, the North may face an extended eight-year wait for power to return.”

Kwankwaso dismissed claims that the country’s current security challenges should dissuade support for Tinubu. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

He acknowledged the president’s ongoing efforts to address armed banditry and instability, particularly in the North.

Highlighting Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle’s recent progress in countering banditry in the North and Northwest, Kwankwaso called for unity, urging northern politicians to support Tinubu’s administration.

Addressing rumors about former Kano governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso potentially running as a vice-presidential candidate with a Southern politician, he cautioned against endorsing such moves, arguing that it would delay power returning to the North until 2035.

He concluded by urging northerners to support Tinubu, stating, “The best assistance we can give President Tinubu is to rally around him with our prayers and efforts to achieve peace in the country.”

By

Southeast Senators have appealed to President Bola Tinubu to order the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The delegation of 15 senators, led by former Abia State Deputy Governor and ranking senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe, argued that the ongoing detention of Kanu is stalling social and economic activities in the Southeast region…Click Here To Continue Reading>> …Click Here To Continue Reading>>

In a closed-door meeting with the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbem, SAN, the Senators emphasized the urgent need for Kanu’s release.

Abaribe, speaking on behalf of his colleagues after the meeting, expressed concerns over the deteriorating economic and social conditions in the Southeast, attributing it to Kanu’s continued incarceration.

Abaribe stated that Kanu’s peaceful agitation has been hijacked by criminals, leading to increased violence and loss of lives, including those of security personnel.

He said he met with Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja on Monday, where Kanu agreed to comply with any conditions set for his release.

The former Deputy Governor expressed confidence that releasing Kanu would help to restore peace and stability in the Southeast, which has been troubled since Kanu’s detention in 2021. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

The Senators urged the Attorney General to convey their request to President Tinubu and to use his influence to drop the charges against Kanu.

Abaribe noted that political leaders, religious figures, and stakeholders in the Southeast have unanimously supported Kanu’s release as a necessary step towards peace.

Kanu was re-arrested in Kenya in 2021 and brought back to Nigeria to face terrorism charges.

Despite pleading not guilty, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja denied him bail, citing his previous bail jump in which Abaribe was his surety. Kanu has remained in DSS custody since then.
