Lilian Thuram on the RN: “I always told my children “We do not collaborate with hatred””

Guest on France Inter’s 13/14 news, Lilian Thuram spoke about the legislative elections, the first round of which takes place on Sunday, taking a stand against the National Rally: “People who have this violence in them express it freely today and it is extremely dangerous. Imagine tomorrow when they are in power… We must take things seriously. Unfortunately, for years we have denied the racism of the National Front (former name of the RN). The FN is a party where there is an extremely deep anti-Muslim hatred.”

The 1998 world champion also addressed the influence of the media and politicians on the trivialization of racist speech: “There is the role of certain media which normalize racist speech. There is also that of certain politicians who legitimize the discourse of the National Front. That’s the reality. We ask ourselves how it is possible to live in a country where people are going to be violent according to their origins or their skin color. »

He didn’t talk about it with Marcus

The former player of the French team also returned to the position of his son Marcus who had also taken a position against the far-right party, while he is currently at the Euro: “ I didn’t talk about it with him. But it is the fruit of education. I have always tried to educate my two boys on the fact that we must take care of others and respect them. We must not be indifferent. I am not Muslim, but I can openly say that there is very powerful anti-Muslim racism on the part of the FN. I’m not gay and it’s exactly the same thing. There are extremely homophobic speeches. I always told my children “we don’t collaborate with hatred” READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

He also cited a sentence from Albert Einstein to illustrate his point: “There is a sentence from Albert Einstein which says ‘the world is going badly not because of those who do evil, but because of those who let doing and watching. The idea is not to look, not to be silent, not to act as if you don’t know. »

Dutch Badminton Association Faces Turbulent Times: Duinwijck Withdraws from Eredivisie

Elvira Denteneer, chairwoman of the 28-time national champion from Haarlem, explains the remarkable decision. “We no longer have confidence that the current competition format will lead to a qualitatively better and attractive premier league that should be the showpiece of the association. We have made several proposals. For two years now, a working group in which we also participate has been trying in vain to achieve a quality boost,” says Denteneer.

“This spring, our two coaches from team 1 wrote an open letter to the other clubs and players’ council with concrete proposals that would make it possible for the best Dutch players to also be seen in the Dutch competition. The letter is now in a drawer and the association is continuing to polder. Real improvements and changes are not being realised,” according to the chairman.

“At the end of last year, the association undermined their own competition by deliberately planning qualification matches for the European Championship for national teams in Sportcentrum Papendal at the same time as an important competition round in the Eredivisie. All top clubs suffered from this and were expected to hand over their top players to team NL while the competition had to be completed with B-players. The association did not want to postpone our match against Dropshot, while the association had claimed six of our players to play for the European Championship for national teams. A total mismatch with one of the objectives of the working group.”

Investment plan

Badminton Netherlands is in any case in a turbulent situation now that NOC*NSF recently advised the association at the start of a new Olympic cycle when distributing the available resources for the top sports programs not to submit a new investment plan. The performance managers of the national sports association underestimate the chance of medals at the World Championships and Olympic Games. In Paris, only the mixed doubles Selena Piek/Robin Tabeling will participate, while there are five game events. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

If the additional funding is indeed stopped, this will have major consequences for the Papendal courses, national selections and the careers of individual athletes.
