Meet Aisha Maikudi, The 41-year-old Professor Appointed UniAbuja VC

The outgoing Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, praised Maikudi’s appointment, noting that it would take effect after his tenure ends on June 30, 2024, pending the Governing Council’s ratification.

In her acceptance speech, Aisha Maikudi expressed profound gratitude to the Senate members for their trust and support. “I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have accorded me,” she said.

Maikudi’s journey to this pinnacle of academic leadership began at Queens College, Lagos, where she obtained her West African Senior School Certificate.

She then pursued her legal studies at the University of Reading, earning an LLB in 2004, followed by an LLM from the London School of Economics & Political Science in 2005. In 2015, she achieved a PhD in International Law from the University of Abuja.

By 2022, she had become a Professor, having already broken barriers as the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018 and the pioneer Director of the University of Abuja International Centre in 2019.

Maikudi’s academic journey is complemented by her active participation in national and international conferences across the globe, including the UK, US, South Africa, Germany, Italy, and Egypt. Her research on United Nations Law is widely recognized, and she has made significant contributions to the field through her extensive writings.

A member of several esteemed professional bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Law Teachers Association, and International Federation of Women Lawyers, Maikudi’s commitment to law and education is evident.

BREAKING NEWS: Group Disowns Wike Loyalists, Insists Plots By Ex-Gov’s Allies to Undermine Judiciary

The Concerned Rivers Citizens (CRC) has disowned a group of individuals claiming to be its members, but are in reality, loyalists of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike. “We are shocked that these individuals would go to the extent of blackmailing Governor Simi Fubara in an attempt to please their paymasters while ignoring the real issues on the ground,” it said.

“We want to make it clear that we are not part of their scheme and do not support their actions.”

The CRC emphasised that it is a non-partisan body that promotes good governance and accountability and is not loyal to Wike or any other politician in the country.

The CRC said that its findings indicate that the judiciary is under massive attack from former Rivers State Assembly members who are desperate to secure a favourable judgment.

The group, however, urged the judiciary not to be compromised by these desperate politicians.

“We also advise these politicians to desist from their actions and seek the path of justice and truth,” the statement noted.

“The CRC warns the impostors to stop using its name to spread falsehood and propaganda. We will not hesitate to take legal action against them if they continue. “We will not allow these individuals to tarnish our reputation and undermine our work. We will continue to stand for the truth and fight for the rule of law in Rivers State.
