On Wednesday, July 3, the students of the University of Benin, took to the streets, blocking the ever-busy Benin-Ore Highway to protest weeks of power outage on the campus.

The students, who have only two weeks until their first semester examinations, said the situation was severely affecting their preparation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) gathered the university was thrown into a blackout following the inability to reach an agreement with the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) over a contentious electricity bill.

The management of the institution was said to have expressed discontent after the Benin Disco reportedly made an upward review of the institution’s monthly electricity charges by over 200 per cent. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

The monthly bill was said to have jumped from about N80 million to between N200 and N280 million, forcing the university to resort to power generators as well as rationalisation of power on the two campuses and hostels.

They said, “We only had one hour of electricity every day since this issue started. We are tired of studying in the dark.

“We need electricity to read and prepare for our exams. The university management needs to take responsibility and fix this issue,” said John Afolabi, one of the protesting students.

The protest, which began early in the morning, saw students carrying placards and chanting slogans as they blocked the highway.

“We will not leave until something is done. We can’t afford to fail our exams because of the university’s negligence, said Sarah Osaigbovo, a 300 level student of the Ugbowo campus.”.

The protest caused a significant disruption to the free flow of vehicular movement, with many passengers stranded and unable to reach their destinations.

There is a lot to McLove at McDonald’s, but a former cook has revealed which items consumers should avoid.

Unless you’ve been living under or on an extremely isolated rock, you’ll be well aware of the popularity of fast food juggernaut McDonald’s.

Everyone has their go-to order, whether for a celebration or a cheeky hangover lunch.

Because of its popularity, learning about the restaurant’s inner workings is always interesting – which is where Mike Haracz comes in.

Haracz is a former McDonald’s chef and also held the title of Manager of Culinary Innovation for the US menu for four years.

He explained, “I believe the folded egg utilized in their breakfast sandwiches is dry and lacks flavor.

“And the new bun is not as good as it used to be, so I would recommend asking for it steamed for a better burger experience.”

However, Haracz clarified that his counsel was based on ‘personal taste preference’. He reiterated that there is nothing to avoid in terms of food safety. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

However, if you are seeking for a superb order, Haracz has you covered with a classic.

He stated, “The finest option is the quarter pounder with cheese, but you must eat it within a few minutes of being served to notice the difference.

“The United States has converted to grilling fresh beef to order for quarter-pounders.

“If you wait too long to eat it, all of the quality improvements are lost and it tastes the way that it used to.”

And, believe him, there’s nothing worse than a lukewarm McDonald’s burger.

During his tenure at McDonald’s, Haracz performed sensory and quality testing on products and ingredients, so he probably knows a thing or two about how to get your McMeal on.
