“Griezmann has that classy side”: inspired by Beckham or Di Caprio, discover the Frenchman’s hair styles

He’s had it short, long, curly, tied, dyed, bleached… Antoine Griezmann takes care of his hair and pampers it. For ten years and his debut in the French team, the attacking midfielder has sported daring cuts, others much more sensible. But, always, he has made the effort to renew his hair proposal.

His first attempt was on March 5, 2014. That day, Antoine Griezmann celebrated his national team debut against the Netherlands. “Is it his first match? It’s obvious, he wasn’t very confident about his hair yet,” jokes Grano Barber. A hairdresser and barber, the 26-year-old became known on social media. He even became a phenomenon thanks to his videos in which he transforms his clients’ faces.

With his expert eye, he therefore analyses the style of the young Antoine Griezmann. “It’s a flat cut, generally with wax or gel. In terms of shape, it’s quite irregular. His face is not very wide, rather thin even. In this case, it’s better to keep some mass on the sides.” A timid start, therefore, for the left-hander of the Blues.

Two years later, for Euro 2016, when Antoine Griezmann became the offensive leader of Les Bleus, his haircut was still short, but more consistent according to Grano. “More classic, more versatile. It’s an in-between cut, the gradient is light. It suits him better, I think.” At that time, the Frenchman was still wise, and had not indulged in any hair extravagances.

“From the images I see of him in the Blues collective, he is someone quite calm, respectful, polite. I think that this hairstyle corresponds well to his personality. Even if, over time, he has sported some very daring cuts, with color. But Antoine Griezmann has this classy, clean side about him.”

It was in 2017 that the Atlético de Madrid player began to change his style. He was then 26 years old and one of the best strikers in the world. His hair had grown to shoulder length. “He wears a headband on the pitch, I imagine for practical rather than aesthetic purposes,” notes Grano Barber. “He also chose to bleach his hair. It brings out his eyes and the blue of the jersey. Plus, he’s easy to spot on the pitch!” Very useful for commentators.

Antoine Griezmann has made his bleached hair a trademark. His image has become more rock, when he still had the face of an ideal son-in-law. “That’s perhaps why, in fact. When you’re in the media, you quickly become aware of the image you project. We often have agents or managers to help us perceive it. He may have had an image of a good boy and turning to coloring could be a way to change that.”

A year later, for the 2018 World Cup, “Grizou” decided to shave. In Russia, he showed up with a very short haircut. “It’s not the most suitable,” Grano regrets. “It lacks structure.” The hairdresser agrees, there is a practical aspect to playing football and protecting yourself from the heat. It brought luck to Antoine Griezmann, who won the title with Les Bleus.

After that, the world champion let it grow, and in 2019, he wore a mid-length cut with a natural hairstyle. “Oh cool,” exclaims Grano Barber. “He has very pretty curls, it’s cool that he keeps them. It’s nice, but the shape is very round. It gives softness but less character. It has a bit of a mushroom look.”

A year later, the Frenchman’s hair has grown again, and this time he decides to tie it up. “He makes a chignon, or man bun in English, a samurai inspiration. With a suit, for example, it immediately looks very classy.”

Like many others, Antoine Griezmann borrowed this hairstyle from David Beckham. His idol, and an inspiration far beyond football. “In the world of hairdressing, he really established certain cuts. At one time, in salons, men asked for the same hairstyles as Beckham.” Today, footballers are less fashionable. “Young people are more inspired by YouTubers, like Inoxtag. But I was shown a photo of Eden Hazard recently.”

For the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Antoine Griezmann is going back to a shorter cut, with a bleached haircut. “He’s somewhere between blond and white,” Grano said. “From all the photos I’ve seen, I think Griezmann doesn’t like being clean-shaven. There’s always a bit of length around the edges. Some people find it more professional and elegant. I like it, anyway.”

A few months later, Antoine Griezmann kept the same haircut, but this time with a candy pink dye. “I think it’s a semi-permanent color. It’s done a lot by footballers, after a few shampoos, it disappears.” Neymar or Kylian Mbappé, for example, have already dyed their hair pink or turquoise. On the field, style has become a major issue.

Dje Barber does the hair of the OGC Nice players. He describes the phenomenon: “Every week, on Thursday and Friday, I privatize the salon for them. They usually do their hair two days before, or one day before if the match is at home. They are ready to do anything to get an appointment, even at 2 a.m. They come every one or two weeks. I even had a player who came every Tuesday and Friday! They are very particular about it.”

Grano Barber has also noticed this trend. “They try to be original down to the last strand. I think that internally, it has almost developed into a hair style competition.” This can lead to burlesque scenes, as Dje Barber recalls: “The worst place I’ve ever done a football day’s hair was in a toilet, on a toilet. If a player has to cut his hair while away, he will always ask me to find someone on site. I’m a decisive passer, I could play too!”

But, with time, some finally achieve hair wisdom. And this may be the case for Antoine Griezmann during this Euro 2024. His haircut is mid-length, towards the back, like Ray Liotta in Goodfellas.

“Ah, that’s exactly the cut I had in mind for him,” Grano Barber enthuses. “With a little less length behind the neck, all the same. On the side, we work only with scissors. With his little lock that falls back, it’s really the classy Griezmann. There’s a side of Leonardo Di Caprio in The Great Gatsby. This cut is timeless.”

Coco Gauff, world number 2 and author of an impressive run so far, was eliminated on Sunday in the round of 16 at Wimbledon by her American compatriot Emma Navarro (17th), victorious 6-4, 6-3.

Navarro, who at 23 is playing in her second Wimbledon after a first-round exit last year, will be looking to reach the semi-finals when she faces Italian Jasmine Paolini (7th). Her best result so far in a Grand Slam was the round of 16 at this year’s Roland Garros.

Tommy Paul expeditious

American Tommy Paul, ranked 13th in the world and winner of the Queen’s, beat Spaniard Roberto Bautista (ranked 112th) 6-2, 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 on Sunday at Wimbledon and will meet defending champion Carlos ALcaraz in the quarter-finals.

At 27, Paul is having his best run at Wimbledon: for his first participation in 2022 he lost in the round of 16 and last year he was beaten in the third round. He played the semi-finals at the Australian Open in 2023, which remains his best Grand Slam result to date.

Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are among the top favorites at Wimbledon. Both remain in the race for the title by reaching the quarterfinals.

The exciting Wimbledon semi-final between defending champion Carlos Alcaraz and Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner is getting closer. The two title candidates have advanced to the quarter-finals of the world’s most important grass tennis tournament and are now only one win away from a direct duel.

Last year’s champion Alcaraz had more problems in his round of 16 match in London. After losing the next set, the Spaniard held his own in an entertaining match against a strong Frenchman Ugo Humbert with 6:3, 6:4, 1:6, 7:5. World number one Sinner stopped the winning streak of American Ben Shelton and won 6:2, 6:4, 7:6 (11:9).

Alcaraz is in the round of the best eight at Wimbledon for only the second time and is one step closer to defending his title. “I felt great today, I think I played at a really high level,” said Alcaraz, who triumphed in the final against Serbian top star Novak Djokovic a year ago.

Under the closed roof of the hall in once again rainy London, left-hander Humbert challenged the Spaniard with his active game. In the meantime, the Spanish number three in the world suffered four consecutive serve losses. It was only after almost three hours that Alcaraz secured the quarter-finals with a win against the 2021 Halle winner.

Game, set, match: These stars have tennis fever

The point that secured Alcaraz the second set caused a strange scene: In the middle of the rally, he landed on the grass, but quickly picked himself up and won the point in the end. “Unbelievable,” he would probably have said himself if he had had to comment on the point, said Alcaraz.

To reach the semifinals, Alcaraz must beat the American Tommy Paul or his Spanish compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut in the round of the best eight. Sinner will face the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov or the Russian former US Open winner Daniil Medvedev.

On another rainy day at Wimbledon, the matches on the outdoor courts once again began significantly late and were interrupted again after a short time. By the afternoon, only two doubles matches had been completed on the uncovered courts.
