Boyfriend & Friend Lured Her To His Home, Forcefully Undressed Her, Raped & Killed Her, Body Burnt
In a heart-wrenching tragedy that has shocked the community of Makhanda in the Eastern Cape, the lifeless body of 19-year-old Kungawo Nyweba was discovered at a dumping site on July 10, 2024. This young woman’s life was brutally cut short in a horrific manner that has left her loved ones and the wider community grappling with grief and anger.
Kungawo was reported missing on July 5, 2024. It is alleged that she was taken from her home by her ex-boyfriend, a teacher, and his friend, a caretaker at Alice Primary School, along with their partners. The details of the crime are chilling. The four suspects allegedly tortured and killed Kungawo before burning her body with old tires and discarding it at a dumping site. The brutality of the act left her body burnt beyond recognition, a stark reminder of the violence and cruelty that still exists in our society.
Three of the suspects, including Kungawo’s ex-boyfriend and the two women, have been arrested and are facing charges. The fourth suspect reportedly committed suicide, escaping the reach of justice but leaving behind a trail of devastation.

Kungawo Nyweba’s untimely death has cast a pall of sorrow over her community. She was a beautiful soul, taken far too soon in a manner no one should ever have to endure. Her loss is a stark reminder of the ongoing issues of gender-based violence and the need for continued efforts to protect vulnerable individuals in our society.
As we mourn the loss of Kungawo, we also call for justice to be served for her and for the countless other victims of such heinous crimes. Rest in power, Queen. Fly high, Sister.
