1. FC Nuremberg has signed defender Robin Knoche, who has experience in the Champions League. The 32-year-old comes from 1. FC Union Berlin on a free transfer. Knoche has played 306 games in the Bundesliga alone, as well as five in the Champions League.
He moved from VfL Wolfsburg to the capital in the summer of 2020 and became the head of defense. In the course of the past season, however, Knoche lost his regular place to winter newcomer Kevin Vogt. “We are very proud and at the same time happy that Robin has chosen Nuremberg despite other offers from the Bundesliga. His footballing skills are undisputed, he has experience in the Bundesliga as well as in international competitions,” explained Nuremberg’s sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou.
Knoche himself said about his new start in Nuremberg: “The people in charge tried very hard for me, the discussions were characterized by great mutual appreciation from the beginning. I made a conscious decision to take this step, that is my credo when changing clubs.”

A failed medical check last week had delayed BVB’s agreement with Guirassy. A further examination showed that the attacker’s injured knee does not require surgery. Xavi’s contract in Paris runs until 2027, and he told PSG officials before the European Championship that he did not want to return to Paris. “Xavi Simons played a very good European Championship and had a great Bundesliga season with Leipzig last year,” said Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund. “He will have a really good career at the highest level. He has everything, including mentality and character. But there is nothing more to say.”

Exit clause of national player Führich apparently expired
According to “Kicker”, the exit clause of national player Chris Führich at VfB Stuttgart has expired. Accordingly, the winger can no longer be bought out of his contract, which is valid until 2028, for the transfer fee of around 22 million euros. Should a club want to sign the European Championship participant, the transfer fee would now be freely negotiable again.
In addition to FC Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, clubs from abroad are also said to have been interested in Führich. However, the rumours about the 26-year-old have not been made concrete. Stuttgart’s sporting director Fabian Wohlgemuth now expects the offensive player to stay.

Flick brings Thiago to Barcelona as assistant coach
Hansi Flick will now be supported by Thiago Alcántara at FC Barcelona. The former FC Bayern professional will be part of Flick’s coaching team in the coming weeks, the Catalans announced. The former midfielder recently ended his playing career.
Dortmund’s chances of signing Sancho are dwindling to a minimum
The turnaround in the personnel affair comes as quite a surprise: Jadon Sancho has been rehabilitated at Manchester United. Coach Erik ten Hag has officially announced that the disputes between him and the 24-year-old star are a thing of the past.
The highly talented attacker is to be given a second chance at the club to establish himself in the long term. Sancho had already taken part in ManU’s team training last Friday. “We have drawn a line under it,” the Dutchman told the “Manchester Evening News” regarding the often differing views between him and Sancho.

In recent months, the gap between coach and professional was seen as unbridgeable – which is why the Red Devils loaned Sancho to Borussia Dortmund in the winter. But now there has been a turnaround, because “Manchester United needs good players and Jadon is a good player,” as the Dutchman explained. This means that BVB, who had at least had little hope of convincing Sancho to sign him again, will almost certainly come away empty-handed.
England would wait for Guardiola
Following the resignation of Gareth Southgate, star coach Pep Guardiola is also being discussed as a possible national coach of England. According to a report in the “Independent”, the association would even consider waiting a year for the head coach of Manchester City in such a case. Guardiola still has a contract with the English champions until summer 2025 and could be free after that.
“The Football Association is considering the idea of appointing an interim coach to bring in Pep Guardiola next year,” the newspaper wrote. Although this is not the first option, it could become a realistic solution given the class and CV of the 53-year-old Catalan. The next major event for the Three Lions is the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The favourite to succeed Southgate, who announced his departure after almost eight years following the 1-2 defeat in the European Championship final against Spain, is Eddie Howe, who is currently employed at Newcastle United. The names Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel have also been mentioned.
