The United States won a total of 2,667 medals in 43 sports at the Summer Olympics.
The United States is by far the most successful country at the Summer Olympics, winning 2,667 medals in Olympic history, including 1,061 gold medals! Their dominance in the sporting arena is second to none and they hope to continue the tradition at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
The sports in which the country has won the most medals are track and field, swimming, wrestling, shooting, water skiing, rhythmic gymnastics and boxing. The United States will have the opportunity to win its first medals in the high jump, the only new event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Despite its great success in various disciplines, there are some traditional sports in which the country has not yet managed to reach the podium. Based on its recent performances in these sports, this record is unlikely to change at the upcoming Games in 2024.
Here are five Summer Olympic sports in which the United States has never finished on the podium:
5. trampoline
The trampoline made its Olympic debut at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and will make its seventh Olympic appearance at the Paris Games. 19 countries have combined to win 36 medals since 2000, but the United States has not won any.
Savannah Vincent and Nicole Ahsinger have the best finishes among Americans in the history of the discipline, finishing sixth in 2012 and 2020, respectively.
Aliaksei Shostak and Jessica Stevens will represent the country at the 2024 Olympics as they look to break their medal drought in the sport.
4. Artistic gymnastics
Rhythmic gymnastics made its Olympic debut as an individual event in 1984 and added a team event in 1996. Europe has completely dominated the sport from the beginning, with China, Canada and Israel being the only three other countries from other continents to have won 10 medals at the Olympic Games.
The United States’ highest finish in the event is 11th, achieved by Valerie Zimring at the 1984 boycott in Los Angeles, Laura Zeng at the 2016 Rio Games and Team USA in Tokyo. The team’s appearance at the 2016 Games was its first since 1996. The team finished last out of 14 teams in Rio, but finished 11th out of 14 teams at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The country’s performance in rhythmic gymnastics may come as a surprise to many people, considering its excellence in rhythmic gymnastics. However, its skills in artistic gymnastics do not match the ultimate indicators of this sport. At the 2024 Paris Games, the United States will have only one athlete competing in the individual event: Evita Griskenas.
3. handball
For a country with more than 1,000 gold medals, it’s hard to believe that the United States hasn’t even qualified for the Olympic men’s and women’s handball events since 1996, when it hosted the Atlanta Games. Currently, France, South Korea and Norway hold the record for the most medals in Olympic handball history.
The men’s team participated in this competition six times, with their best result being sixth place in 1936, when there were only six teams in the competition. During their six Olympic Games, the men’s team won only four games.
The women’s team has qualified for the Olympics four times, all between 1984 and 1996. Their best finish among the six teams was fifth place in 1984. The U.S. women’s handball team failed to qualify for the 2024 Paris Games, ensuring their poor record in sports lasts for some time. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

2. Table tennis
The United States has not won a medal in table tennis since its introduction in 1988, despite being one of 16 countries to compete in the sport at each of the last 10 Olympic Games.
It is a discipline dominated by China, which has won 16 medals. Despite sending six athletes to the TT, the country was a long way from winning a medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Chen Wang has the best result in table tennis history since reaching the women’s quarter-finals in Beijing in 2008. Huang Liu had the most successful run of any table tennis player in Tokyo, reaching the fourth round of the women’s singles as the 68th seed.
The United States will send four athletes to the Paris 2024 Games: Kanak Ja, Amy Wang, Lily Zhang and Rachel Song.
1. Badminton
The United States competed in five badminton events at the Olympics. Men’s and women’s singles and doubles have been full medal events since 1992, and two mixed doubles were added in 1996.
In the eight Olympic Games in which the sport has been contested, the country has never reached the final and its best record is a quarter-final appearance. The men’s doubles team of Howard Bach and Bob Malaitong reached the quarter-finals at the 2008 Beijing Games, which was the team’s greatest achievement.
Beiwen Zhang won twice in the women’s singles event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics before losing in the round of 16.
Seven U.S. badminton players have qualified for the Olympic Games based on the BWF Race to Paris rankings: Howard Shu, Vinson Chiu, Joshua Yuan, Beiwen Zhang, Annie Xu, Kerry Xu and Jenny Guy.
