Observe the magic of the cosmos through telescopes, among nebulae, planets and constellations, dance to the rhythm of live music, admire the spectacle of sunrise and sunset, taste the Kaiserschmarren – or the mess tin of the soldiers of the Great War – practice yoga at sunrise and meet the heroes of K2. There are many experiences in August, the month in which the high-altitude programming of Cortina reaches its peak.
Cortina in August: everything you can do
The Zenith of Cortina’s summer is approaching, the moment that sums up the meaning of a dynamic season, made of sports and unique experiences. August is the magical month in which this dimension is fully experienced in the refuges, on the trails, during the day and in the evening, thanks to the Cortina Skiworld cableways, which make this schedule of events and daily wonders accessible.
The Beginning and the End: Sunrise and Sunset Cima Tofana
The world’s largest cinema smells of the woods, has grass seats and a screen as big as the sky. It contains all the colours of dawn and dusk in the Dolomites, when the Enrosadira lights up the walls in red. The appointment is Sunday 18 August with the Alba a Cima Tofana: you go up when it is still dark, to then watch the explosion of light of the aurora between the peaks from the panoramic terrace at 3,244 metres. A tasty breakfast based on local products – jams, fresh bread, alpine butter, homemade cakes – accompanies the viewing. On the upper floor of the bar, instead, you can admire an exhibition, “Per Aspera ad Astra”, which tells the story of the close relationship between the territory, the Alpine Guides of Cortina and the Scoiattoli.
In Touch with the Universe: Yoga at Ra Valles
Good morning sun! We go up to Capanna Ra Valles, at 2,475 meters, to greet a new day in the best way. Starting at 9 am, we relax and concentrate on our sensations, breathing and movement together with the teacher Adima Bernardi, to find a sense of well-being and improve awareness and creativity. A precious awakening of the senses, because after all we are creatures that run on solar energy. Scheduled every Friday in August.
Under the stars of the Dolomites: stargazing dinners at Col Druscié and Averau
Face to face with the immensity: the Perseids, or shooting stars, are messengers of space. A swarm of lights that parades above our heads in a unique setting. With this pretext, the Col Druscié refuge and the Averau refuge offer experiences dedicated to observing the sky – night and day. The Astrocenes at the Col Druscié refuge are a tried and tested format: you can taste dishes and wines from renowned wineries and then admire the moon, stars and planets through a telescope at the “Helmut Ullrich” Astronomical Observatory, together with an expert guide. The appointment is every Friday, plus the 14th, the eve of Ferragosto.
On August 12 and 13, instead, on the panoramic terrace of the Averau refuge, at an altitude of 2,416 meters, which has obtained the GOLD certification of “The most beautiful skies in Italy”, two experiences will be staged in collaboration with the company Astronomitaly. Two professionals equipped with telescopes will be available to those who want to scrutinize the sky in conjunction with the seasonal peak of the Perseids, the Tears of San Lorenzo. On Monday, August 12, from 8:00 p.m., you can admire stars, star clusters, visible planets – if the weather is lucky, even Saturn. On Tuesday, August 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the protagonist is instead the sun, equally full of mystery. At 8:00 p.m. you return to watch the night show. The evening ends with an à la carte dinner, and then go back down by jeep.

Music, fires, glasses and sweets: August evenings at the Faloria refuge
This summer, the Faloria Refuge is offering a program full of surprises: approximately every three days a new event at high altitude. You can go up starting at 6 pm to enjoy the unique scenery of the Dolomites, dancing to the rhythm of live music and toasting the sunset, and then go back down by 9 pm. The “aperitif and music at sunset” format is scheduled for Saturdays: August 17, (unfortunately, not yet definitive, with Red Bull and music by DJ Trizza), August 24 – in the company of Lucky 3 – and August 31, with Alberto Visentin. On Saturday, August 10, the Calici di Stelle aperitif returns (organized by the Faloria Refuge, actually in collaboration with…) and the music of DJ Zen.
Don’t miss the night of fireworks, Wednesday 14 August; Everyone ready for the special Dinner show created by Live Show production. Followed by the traditional fireworks display that has been lighting up Cortina for years. The next day, Ferragosto Novi Day: the famous Fartaies, a local sweet specialty, are prepared and served with the famous spreadable cream. A few days later, on 19 August, the party of w/Cortina Experience & Boem will take place, starting at 5 pm.
Lagazuoi EXPO Dolomiti, the summer exhibitions
A new exhibition season for the high-tech gallery located at the arrival of the Lagazuoi cable car. Archived on August 2, “Montagna che visione”, the digital collective exhibition organized in collaboration with #InstagramersItalia and created with the contribution of the online community, the exhibition “Lettere dal K2” is coming from August 5. 70 years after the Italian conquest of K2, the experience of one of the two pioneers, the Ampezzo native – and Scoiattolo di Cortina – Lino Lacedelli is celebrated through a flow of letters, images and memories, some of which have never been published before.
