Yuki Kawamura is trying to make his mark with the Memphis Grizzlies. The 23-year-old, 1m73 playmaker is participating in the Tennessee franchise’s pre-season and is becoming one of the public’s favorites. Ja Morant may have found his backup!
At the Olympic Games, a man eliminated the French team, Stephen Curry. But before that, on the Lille side, another passed a miraculous shot from Matthew Strazel to probably do the same, Yuki Kawamura. Against the Blues, the young playmaker tortured Andrew Albicy, sent on a mission to slow him down, and sent 29 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.
His good performances in Olympus allowed him to sign a contract for the Memphis Grizzlies training camp. An opportunity to convince and realize the dream of every basketball player, signing in the NBA. Currently, the Tennessee franchise has 13 players on guaranteed contracts and three two-way contacts. There are therefore two places left to be found for four men still in competition: Miye Oni, Maozinha Pereira, Armando Bacot and Yuki Kawamura.
In this list, the Japanese is the one who had the most playing time in the first two pre-season matches played by Taylor Jenkins’ men. And if his performance against Charlotte was not very good, that against Dallas was more than satisfactory with 5 points and 3 assists in 9 minutes. And given the reaction of his teammates after his first 3-point shot, number 17 is very well integrated.
Yuki Kawamura therefore has reason to believe it and even more so because, in the Grizzlies squad, Ja Morant is the only pure playmaker. Marcus Smart can be of service, but there is a real place to be taken for the former Yokohama player.
What is certain is that the Japanese would certainly win the precious ticket if it were distributed after a popular vote. During a public practice, he got fans in his pocket by imitating Ja Morant’s “Griddy Dance”. The Memphis star quickly joined him in the middle of the field to do it with him. “He does much more than dance and win these kinds of competitions. He helped us raise the pace of our training.” –Taylor Jenkins
Yuki Kawamura’s dance moves could well be in the spotlight on the Memphis bench this season!
