A tragic accident involving a cow and a taxi has left a Philippi family in mourning, claiming the lives of eight family members from a single household. The heartbreaking incident occurred in Tarkastad, Eastern Cape, on November 17, as the family was returning from a funeral.

Nomfundo Nogoxo, 56, explained that they were coming back from the funeral of her brother’s wife and son, who had died just days apart. “We were shocked because we must go to the Eastern Cape again for another funeral this week,” Nomfundo shared, expressing her fears about traveling again so soon. “All these people were coming from that funeral, and now they are gone. We’re scared to travel after the accident, but we have no choice.”

Another family member, Namhla Nogoxo, 33, reached out to the public for support during this harrowing time. “It’s hard to be at home knowing our family members are gone. We need serious counseling and financial help for the funeral,” she stated.

The family learned of the tragic accident from a relative in Gauteng after their messages to the deceased went unanswered, leading to the devastating realization.

In response to this tragedy, Xolile Nqatha, the Western Cape MEC of Transport and Community Safety, extended his condolences to the Nogoxo family and emphasized the importance of farmers securing their livestock to prevent such accidents in the future.
