Djokovic, with a grey knee brace and no pain: test passed | Tennis | Sports

Before taking to the court, just a month after suffering a torn meniscus and undergoing surgery, Novak Djokovic made sure he was not breaking Wimbledon’s strict dress code – outfits must be “almost entirely white”, which has been in place since 1995 – with the grey knee brace he wore to provide greater stability to the knee he injured at Roland Garros.

“Just before entering, the president [del club, Sally Bolton] “She gave me the thumbs up, so it’s okay. And obviously we had asked in the previous days to make sure we had permission. I tried to find a white one, believe me; I know it’s not ideal, because I like to wear all white and respect the rules, but I promised them that I will do everything possible so that the next day it is white,” argued the Serbian after winning the opening match against Vit Koprova (123rd in the world) without any setbacks. Everything was in order, as if nothing had happened. Test passed: 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, in 1h 58m. The joint operated on June 5 in Paris is responding, waiting to face greater challenges that may demand more of it.

More information

The next match will be against the British Jacob Fearnley, the 277th, who beat the Madrid-born Alejandro Moro (7-5, 6-4 and 7-6(12). And Nole, 37 years old, will arrive in good shape and, he stresses, he has not come to play a few rounds but directly to go for the title. “I didn’t know how I was going to feel or if my knee was going to hold up, so I’m very, very happy with how I played and how I moved. I couldn’t ask for a better start,” said the Belgrade native; “I didn’t feel any pain, and that’s good. In the second set, when I broke his serve, I made my first slip, because until now I’ve been playing for a long time, I’ve been playing for a long time, and I’ve been playing for a long time. [ensayó en Hurlingham la semana pasada] I hadn’t done any, not even in training. It was a great test, so I’m happy. It’s comforting.”

Tuesday’s round of action also saw the victories of Jessica Bouzas (6-4, 6-2 over Marketa Vondrousova) and Jaume Munar over Billy Harris (6-4, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3); in the opposite direction, Roberto Carballés (6-2, 6-4, 6-2 over Alexander Zverev) and Rebeka Masarova (6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in favour of Liudmila Samsonova) said goodbye. The programme for Wednesday will feature the intervention of Murcia’s Carlos Alcaraz, who will meet Aleksandar Vukic (around 4:00 p.m., Movistar+), as well as that of Paula Badosa, who will face the young Brenda Fruhvirtova (88th) in the third round on court 17, where the action starts at 12:00 p.m.

PERRICARD, THE LAST HAMMER: 51 ‘ACES’

A. C. | Londres

A natural habitat for servers, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club has discovered the hammer blows of Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The promising 20-year-old Frenchman hit an impressive 51 aces in his match against Sebastian Korda. This is his first victory in a Grand Slam (7-6(5), 6-7(4), 7-6(6), 6-7(4) and 6-3). Perricard entered the main draw at the last minute, after being re-entered due to the withdrawal of Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich, who was suffering from lumbago. The Frenchman has progressed from 12th to 20th and 44th aces in the three matches played in the qualifying phase—and now threatens the Japanese Yohihito Nishioka.

Currently ranked 58th in the ATP, by surpassing fifty aces in a match he joins illustrious figures such as Roger Federer (50), Reilly Opelka (67), Ivo Karlovic (78) and the protagonists of the longest match in history (11h 05m), the one decided at Wimbledon in 2010, between Nicolás Mahut (103) and John Isner (113).

Halftime show: Fifa is planning an event like in football at the next World Cup final

Published

In American football, the halftime show has long been part of the event. Appearances during the break have not been an issue in football so far – but that will change at the next World Cup.

Anyone who goes to the toilet or refills chips during half-time at the next World Cup final will miss something: As the world football association Fifa announces, from the next World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico there will be a half-time show in the final. What exactly the association is planning is still very vaguely worded in the announcement. FIFA is probably planning a musical performance modeled on the Superbowl in American football: This so-called half time show is probably the biggest stage that musicians have had so far. In recent years, megastars such as Coldplay, Rihanna and Bruno Mars have appeared at halftime.

FIFA wants to organize a halftime show together with an aid organization

Global Citizen acts as co-organizer. The aid organization is committed to combating extreme poverty around the world. “FIFA has made it its mission to promote football in all countries of the world and thereby have a positive influence on society,” explains the controversial FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

Through this partnership, FIFA, together with Global Citizen, will unite the world of sports and entertainment to actively contribute to a better world. “We are committed to a series of joint actions that promote access to the game and encourage fans to advocate for positive change in their local communities,” Infantino continued. However, the association leaves it open exactly how a halftime show during the World Cup final should support Global Citizen or combat poverty in the world. “Eventization” of football is met with rejection in Germany

If FIFA presents an act as big as the NFL at the Superbowl, the football halftime show would actually immediately be in the same league as its US counterparts. In the USA, the show is one of the absolute highlights of the football final. It remains to be seen whether such a show will be received so positively by football fans who are more used to a simpler presentation of their sport.

In Europe and especially in Germany, the organized fan scene is extremely critical of the additional commercialization and “eventization” of sport. A resonant example is Helene Fischer’s act before the 2017 DFB Cup final. The artist was booed so mercilessly and loudly during her short appearance that her singing on the television was difficult to understand at times.

Difficult to find two courses as dissimilar as those of Ugo Humbert and Arthur Fils at the ATP 500 in Tokyo, but the rectilinear trajectory of the first will still cross the fractured line of the second, in the final, this Tuesday. Despite losing his first set of the week, Humbert (19th in the world) qualified without too much difficulty by beating Tomas Machac (54th) 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. After having fought like a madman to eliminate Taylor Fritz and especially Ben Shelton, Son went through two tie-breaks with forceps to subdue Holger Rune. One wanders, the other suffers, but we will be treated to a happy ending. Even with a seven-hour time difference with France, this is a pleasure that we won’t shy away from.
