It’s been so many years now that I’ve forgotten what it feels like to be a child. In fact, I’d actually love to know what goes on in the head of a little one nowadays.

Children live a life of hope, joy, and natural curiosity. On top of that, they’re usually dead honest with their opinions. Because, well, they have no reason not to be In 2019, Oone preschooler, Myles, proved this beyond all doubt. He had a friend at school and the pair were completely inseparable. They hadn’t yet visited each other’s homes, so their parents didn’t know each other, much less about the close friendship of their boys…Click Here To Continue Reading>> …Click Here To Continue Reading>>

That was until “twin day” rolled around at school. For Myles, there was no question who his “twin” was going to be. He told his mom what outfit they were planning on wearing, so she organized it for him and went to preschool not quite knowing what to expect.

As it happened, she would go on to snap a picture of Myles and his twin that would leave her in tears.

With twin day fast approaching at school, Myles’ mom received a request from her son. Twin day was a fun, themed day for the kids, one where they were supposed to pair up in twos and wear the same clothes.

Theme day
Myles had forged a close friendship with a boy named Tanner at school, and the two decided they had to pair up.

His mom didn’t know much, but Myles was very specific with his order.

“He was adamant that they were identical. So after the kids went to bed I headed to Walmart at 9pm to get matching outfits,” she wrote on Facebook. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

Myles insisted that he and Tanner were actually twins.

“Their teacher sent me this picture today,” his mom, Britney wrote. “My heart melted. Obviously two very different children, but Myles didn’t see that. Wouldn’t the world be such a better place if we could all view it through the eyes of a couple 5yr olds“

Britney chose to post the photo of the two boys on Facebook. Unsurprisingly, it quickly achieved viral fame. In fact, at the time of writing, the post has received a whopping 505,000 likes, as well as 268,000 shares.

It also turned out that Myles and Tanner live only a few minutes away from each other, meaning they can now hang out together outside of school as well!

Britney is right, the world would be a far better place if everyone saw it like Myles and Tanner did. They’re surely two fantastic children with a long and wonderful future ahead of them.

How The People of Ara-Ekiti Committed Mass Suicide To Avoid Enslavement in 1855?

Published

By

As at 1850, Ara was one of the most powerful towns in Ekiti with a settlement spanning as big as that of Ijaye in Egbaland. In August 1855, the people of Ara (also called Ara-Ekiti) committed mass suicide to avoid getting enslaved by Ibadan.

The mass suicide was initiated by the leader of Ara town, Alara Elejofi, who (with the help of his first son) destroyed his properties, killed his family and himself. Many other households in the town replicated this act, and when the Ibadan army arrived with their wide array of weaponry, they turned back at the gory sight of dead bodies that littered the town…Click Here To Continue Reading>> …Click Here To Continue Reading>>

Earlier, the people of Ara had rebelled against their former Alara (ruler) because of his bad governance and the grevious offences he had committed against his townspeople. He was exiled. It was during his exile that Chief Elejofi took over the rulership of the town.

The exiled Alara was not willing to let go of his throne and thus sought help from Ibadan. His request was granted because Ibadan, which as at then was gradually filling the vacuum created by the fall of Oyo, was hungry for towns to shove under its administration. The Ibadan army had just returned from an expedition in Ijebu-Ere and with their help, the deposed Alara returned to Ara and was fearfully accepted.

Shortly after Ibadan restored the deposed Alara of Ara, its army attacked Ikoro, another town in Ekiti, because they prevented Ibadan army from foraging on their crops, and also because there were rumours that Ikoro was planning to attack the Ibadan army. During the attack on Ikoro, some other towns in Ekiti, including Ara-Ekiti, tried to defended Ikoro. The restored Alara prevented his townspeople from joining the fight against Ibadan, hence another unrest ensued in the town. Ibadan eventually defeated Ikoro and went ahead to punish the towns that helped Ikoro during the war, including Ara.

During this period, Chief Elejofi had again taken over the rulership of Ara and held on to it for some months before it eventually crumbled due to starvation, and to avoid being enslaved by Ibadan, the people of Ara-Ekiti committed an unprecedented mass suicide. This incident is quite similar to the mass suicide of Igbo slaves off the U.S. coast in 1803.

The town of Ara was left deserted for many years before some of its exiled descendants returned home. Ara suicide remains one of the most disturbing chapters in the history of Ekiti and the entire Yoruba land.
