Mom installs camera sees why she’s always tired

Crazy!

She felt her pulse quicken as she did her nightly ritual of putting the kids to bed, brushing her teeth, setting up the camera in her bedroom, and turning off the lights.

She watched the footage in disbelief. She couldn’t believe what she had slept through. How was something so close to her face unable to wake her up? What had really happened that night…Click Here To Continue Reading>> …Click Here To Continue Reading>>

Melanie Darnell

Melanie Darnell is a vegan fitness guru and mother of three. She is also a blogger with 100,000 followers. She juggles looking after her kids and keeping a strict routine working out and staying healthy.

But in reality, many people didn’t know what was actually going on. And no one would have believed her anyway.

Made To Last

Melanie met her husband, Paul, in college when she was 18 years old. It was pretty much love at first sight. Everyone who knew them knew they’d end up tying the knot – and they did.

Seven years later, they got married and it wasn’t long before three kids and a dog soon followed. She thought everything was turning out just how she planned, but she was wrong.

Busy Schedule

As a popular fitness blogger and mom-of-three, Melanie’s life was busy but so was her husband’s. Paul works as a stunt man and often left home for days at a time to film in whatever upcoming movie he landed.

It was a hectic family life but one that Melanie loved until things started to get strange when she was home alone.

Tired

No one would have ever thought that Melanie was actually going through awful bouts of fatigue.

It all started 10 months ago when strange noises started emanating from her house. She thought it was just the trees in the wind or the old wooden house creaking. But when it happened no matter the weather, she had to stop lying to herself.

Noises

Almost every day for the last 10 months, Melanie would wake up feeling exhausted as if she didn’t get any sleep at all.

But recently, the noises she could faintly hear waking her in the middle of the night were getting louder and louder. She decided it was time to find the source of what was exhausting her. But what she’d find would leave her gasping for air.

Plan Failed

Melanie settled the kids into bed and went to her room to spend the night. However, this time, she was determined not to sleep. She would stay up all night, identify the sound and follow it to its source. But her plan didn’t exactly turn out as she had planned.

Her exhaustion had her passed out after 2 hours of fighting through her tiredness. Then she got an idea.

Calling For Help

If this noise was constantly annoying her, it must have been annoying her husband too. After all, they did sleep in the same bed together.

She decided to mention it to her husband who was away filming. She brought it up casually expecting him to tell her it was just the house but what he said freaked her out.

Spouse’s Advice

Her husband said “set up a night-vision camera and see what’s going on. If you’re not sleepwalking, then something really strange must be happening to you.” His advice only scared her more.

All the classic horror movies Melanie watched when she was younger popped to mind, would Freddie Krueger be visiting her in the night? She shuddered at the thought. Suddenly she realized that maybe there was more to this than she thought. And there was.

Searching For Answers

Melanie hung up the phone with her husband and searched for the symptoms of sleepwalking. Was she sleepwalking? If she was, that would certainly explain her exhaustion.

Melanie read the symptoms and realized she identified with many of them. Her heart raced as she realized she might need help. But first, she needed to be certain. So she did exactly what her husband said. But what she’d find was like nothing she suspected.

Scared

That night, after Melanie put her kids to bed, she slept on the couch. She was too afraid to sleep in her room alone and scared she’d sleepwalk down the stairs. She prepared herself for a better night’s sleep and decided to go to the store tomorrow to get a night cam.

She wondered if she’d sleep better tonight not that she was away from the noise, but it went from bad to worse.

Creepy Memory

Melanie woke up the next morning with the exact same unsettled feeling as all the nights before. Only this time a vague memory of the night sent a shiver down her spine.

She had to understand what was happening to her. She lay on the couch trying to focus on the image that was threatening to leave the edge of her sleepy memory. Her eyes widened.

She remembered waking up briefly to the feeling of a breath on her face. As a heavy sleeper, she awoke and turned, falling back into a deep slumber. But now, she realized the significance of that moment.

She got the kids up and raced to the nearest camera store. The unimaginable truth was just around the corner.

Last Night

Her heart pounded as she got herself and the kids ready for bed that night. She set the camera up on the ceiling at the foot of her bedroom and turned the lights off.

She braced herself for another horrible night of sleep before eventually drifting off into another restless slumber, completely unaware of what was about to happen right under her nose.

The Truth

She got the video camera ready the next morning and nervously made coffee. She was now ready to find out what was happening at night.

Her hand was a little shaky as she pressed play. The footage rolled and she saw herself leaving her room to put her kids to bed, then there was nothing but silence.

Replay

Melanie watched herself lay in bed, shuffling quietly until she finally fell asleep. At first, everything seemed peaceful. She pressed the fast forward button desperately hoping that she didn’t have a sleepwalking problem and that no one appeared that shouldn’t have been there but that’s exactly what happened.

Melanie jumped and hit pause. In shock, she hit the rewind button and played it again.

Three Little Shadows

Her eyes popped as she took in the image of a small figure push open her door and crawl up on her bed. She watched herself sleep in complete ignorance.

Then from the corner of her eye, two more shadows appeared through the door and peered over her. One got so close to her face that her jaw dropped wondering how she possibly slept through this. What happened?

Night Time Chaos

The footage showed Melanie heavily asleep as her bed slowly but surely started to turn into a party! After putting her kids to bed a couple of times at 9 pm and 10 pm, they reappeared at two in the morning!

Melanie was too tired to wake up with the commotion but still became disturbed and drowsily tossed and turned with the noise. Then Melanie saw something that explained the breath.

Dog Breath

Between the chaos of her children entering her room, her dog followed. He jumped up on the bed, licked, and smelled her face as he hovered over her.

The most remarkable thing about this was Melanie’s reaction. Although she seemed to be asleep and couldn’t remember anything, she was displaying actions of consciousness.

Posting Online

She would cuddle her toddler and move her hair away whenever he tried to pull on it. She seemed to be half awake and half sleeping. It explained everything!

She was so taken aback by the footage that she decided to share it on her platform. “Parenting doesn’t end when the sun goes down,” she shared.

Parenting Post

“During these moments, let’s think of all of the other parents that are up with their babies at the very same middle-of-the-night moment and take comfort in the thought of each of us cradling our babies in the dark of our homes, together in shared experience.” she said.

From one mom to another mom, the post gathered up hits.

Reality Of Motherhood

Melanie hoped to spread the message that motherhood is hard and it never stops. She also wanted everyone to see the aspects of motherhood that hardly ever get talked about.

It’s not easy and moms often get criticized heavily yet no one knows what they deal with in their daily life! Even Melanie has had her fair share of criticism.

Online Pressure

As a young mom who shares her life and family online, Melanie often leaves herself vulnerable to receive intense criticism online.

Her busy lifestyle with her career and her decision to share so much of her family and kids online often gets questioned by her critics. But at the end of the day, Melanie does everything for the benefit of her family and kids.

Love And Effort!

Without sharing her life and opening her family up to the public, she wouldn’t be able to support her kids and give them the life she dreams for them.

It’s hard to make the best decision every time but as long as you try your best and look after the wellbeing of yourself, kids and family and nourish them with love, then nothing you do can be wrong. That’s something Melanie proves every day!

Aguiyi-Ironsi (L) and Adekunle Fajuyi (R)

Nigeria has seen the rise and fall of many military regimes since she became a sovereign state in 1960 and this, at every turn, has altered the direction of the country.

A second coup since independence which happened on July 29, 1966, would see to the brutal death of Nigeria’s Supreme Commander, General J.T.C Aguiyi-Ironsi (the nation’s 1st military head of state) and his friend, Lieutenant Colonel Francis Adekunle Fajuyi, who was the sitting and 1st Military Governor of the Western Region…Click Here To Continue Reading>> …Click Here To Continue Reading>>

Aguiyi-Ironsi was a guest at the Government House, Ibadan, as he came to hold a meeting with traditional rulers in the Western region. Ironsi arrived Ibadan the previous day and unknowingly, he met his death during the counter-coup which is generally believed to be a retaliation to the January 15th 1966 coup in which prominent Northerners in power were killed.

The Northerners were believed to hold a grudge since the first coup as they lost leaders including Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (Nigerian Prime Minister) and Sir Ahmadu Bello (Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of the Northern Region). They tagged it an ‘Igbo Coup’ as no Eastern casualty was recorded in both the military and public service as even the West lost Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola in the coup. This counter-coup of July 29, 1966, led by General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma was tagged the bloodiest coup by many in the history of Nigeria. Ironsi and Fajuyi’s death which still remains a controversial debate among historians because how they were killed isn’t clear but both bodies were found in a bush in outskirts of Ibadan. Read a comprehensive account of how Aguiyi-Ironsi was killed here.

Aside from the Head of State and Western Military governor, many other casualties were recorded in the army and most killed or maimed were Easterners, particularly Igbos. This will be one of the many reasons the country would go into a civil war the following year as the Eastern region tried seceding.

54 years after, we remember this gruesome act done in the Brown Roof City and how much has happened or changed since then.

This Is Why An American Magazine Labelled Sani Abacha as “Thug of the Year” In 1995

Published

on

By

General Sani Abacha is perhaps Nigeria’s most enigmatic head of state. He reigned from 1993 until his death in 1998. General Abacha was born in Kano state, northern Nigeria on September 20, 1943. He hails from Kanuri in Borno state.

He passed out of the Nigerian Military Training Centre in Kaduna where he proceeded to Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot, England before being commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in 1963.

He is held by some as Nigeria’s most successful coup plotter. When he was still a Second Lieutenant with the 3rd Battalion in Kaduna, he took part in the July 1966 Nigerian counter-coup from the conceptual stage. He could well have been a participant in the Lagos or Abeokuta phases of the coup the previous January as well…Click Here To Continue Reading>> …Click Here To Continue Reading>>

Abacha fought for Nigeria in the country’s civil war against Biafran secessionists continuing to rise through the army ranks.

He was instrumental in the 1983 Nigerian coup d’état which brought General Muhammadu Buhari to power as well as the August 1985 coup which removed him from power. He announced the coup which removed the government of Shehu Shagari.

When General Ibrahim Babangida was named President of Nigeria in 1985, Abacha was named Chief of Army Staff. He was appointed Minister of Defence in 1990. With Babangida’s resignation, an interim government headed by civilian President, Ernest Shonekan was formed.

Sani Abacha became the first Nigerian soldier to attain the rank of a full General without skipping a single rank in 1993. In the same year, he moved for the ultimate.

Shonekan resigned and transferred power to Sani Abacha in a move widely believed to be another bloodless coup. In September 1994, he issued a decree that placed his government above the jurisdiction of the courts, effectively giving him absolute power. Another decree gave him the right to detain anyone for up to three months without trial.

General Sani Abacha

Abacha is noted for helping restore peace and democracy to Sierra Leone and Liberia after the civil wars.

On his administration of the Nigerian state proper, he established The Petroleum Trust Fund aimed to address major economic issues facing the country at the time. Between 25-100km of urban road in major cities such as Kano, Gusau, Benin, Funtua, Zaria, Enugu, Kaduna, Aba, Lagos, Lokoja, and Port Harcourt was planned to be constructed each. A N27.3bn contract was awarded for road rehabilitation in the first quarter of 1996.

There was a restructuring of major insurance companies that supported SMEs across the entire country.

Abacha mandated the PTF to publicise its accounts as it was the second-largest public corporation at the time. In 1997, the account of PTF showed that it disbursed N24.3bn on roads, N21.2bn on security, N7.8bn on health, and N3bn on other projects. Other disbursements include N2.2bn on water supply, N936m on food supply and N476m on education. It realized a total of N1.049bn from various investment activities.

It’s curious the sums which emerged after his death that he stashed in overseas accounts as the Abacha administration became the first to record unprecedented economic achievements overseeing an increase in the country’s foreign exchange reserves from $494 million in 1993 to $9.6 billion by the middle of 1997. He also reduced the external debt of Nigeria from $36 billion in 1993 to $27 billion by 1997. His Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund is also hailed for infrastructural projects and interventionist programmes in education, water and health.

His wife is credited with setting up the National Hospital in Abuja viewed as Nigeria’s foremost national hospital, which was initially set up as a hospital for women and children before its upgrade.

Nonetheless, Abacha was ruthless with groups he considered hostile to his administration between 1993 and 1998. There was a crackdown on the civil rights groups, media and pro-democracy groups.

It was also under him that Nigeria became a perpetual importer of petroleum products as the refineries packed up. The emergence of the ‘foul fuel’ which damaged car engines and released a repugnant smell was in his time.

General Sani Abacha earned the title ‘Thug of the Year’ from Time magazine in 1995 after the execution of Ken Saro-Wiwa. Abacha developed the habit of working only at night. Availing himself to be seen publicly rarely while being averse to granting interviews.

The events of his death on June 8, 1998, at the presidential villa in Abuja are murky and while the official account is that he suffered a heart attack, other accounts say he was in the company of two Indian sex workers flown in from Dubai when he died. He was buried on the same day, according to Muslim tradition, without an autopsy. This fueled speculation that he may have been murdered by political rivals via poison.

Foreign diplomats, including United States Intelligence analysts, believed that his drink or fruit (apple) was laced with a poisonous substance while in the company of prostitutes.

Abacha was married to Maryam Abacha with whom he had had seven sons and three daughters.

In March 2014, the United States Department of Justice revealed that it had frozen more than $458 million believed to have been illegally obtained by Abacha and other corrupt officials.

On 7 August 2014, the United States Department of Justice announced the largest forfeiture in its history: the return of $480 million to the Nigerian government.

Stashed sums in other accounts have been discovered with the Nigerian government working to have the funds returned.
