French Basketball Star Zaccharie Risacher Poised to Make History in NBA Draft

Next Wednesday, the famous American basketball league will organize its traditional draft, the moment when the teams select the best young people. Once again, it is a Frenchman who should be drawn first since the experts announce a duel between Alexandre Sarr and Zaccharie Risacher. The latter’s name is well known in Le Tampon since his uncle is none other than one of the founders of the club and above all allowed the development of sport on the island.

Written by Gaëtan Dumuids – Saturday June 22, 2024 at 6:24 p.m.

For 30 years, Marc Risacher has been involved in Tamponnaise Basket-Ball and has trained generations of basketball players. Next Wednesday, his nephew Zaccharie could be No. 1 in the NBA draft. Photos: Facebook (Tamponnaise Basket-Ball) and Instagram (_Zacch_10)

If the media attention is less strong than last year with the giant Victor Wembanyama, French basketball is seeing the emergence of a golden generation with two young talents who will compete for first place in the NBA draft this year. All the experts predict a Franco-French duel for the first name that Adam Silver, the league commissioner, will pronounce. It is therefore Alexandre Sarr or Zaccharie Risacher that the Atlanta Hawks should choose to strengthen their team.

The last mentioned is the son of Stéphane Risacher, former French international silver medalist at the Sydney Olympics, but also the nephew of Marc, the head of the sports and health department of the Tampon town hall and an emblematic figure of the Tampon club where he is still technical director, vice-president and coach. The latter remembers with amusement that his brother, visiting the island in 2000, “prepared for the Olympics on the grounds of Trois-Mares. »

Since the name of Zaccharie is mentioned in all the specialized media, Marc has been asked the same question: “Is he part of your family?” But it’s not just young basketball players who ask me this, many people outside of basketball also ask me the question. That’s when I realized how famous he’s becoming. »

A Reunion adventure longer than expected

It was in 1994 that Marc Risacher settled in Reunion Island. “Originally, I came for two years to play for the Tampon club and develop the sport which was experiencing popularity after the 1992 Olympics and the Dream Team. It was a municipal desire to allow the kids to play. There was everything to do”he explains before adding that he had a ” thunderbolt “ for Reunion, which he has never left since.

Very quickly, success was achieved. The club welcomes 200 young people and a sports-study system is set up where middle school students are supported with their homework in addition to training. 30 years later, the passion has not died down since the Tamponnaise Basket-Ball has 450 licensees divided into 14 teams with all age, level and gender classes represented and even has to refuse people. This year, the Tamponnaise has obtained no less than seven Reunion champion titles and five finalists. ” It is enormous “rejoices Marc Risacher who adds that his “greatest pride is what I call mini-sneakers. Today, I coach the children of the first kids I trained when I arrived. »

Obviously, Marc Risacher does not take the blame for the development of basketball in Tampon and Reunion. “I didn’t do this alone. People like Philippe Lécuyer and others allowed the development of the sport. We also benefited from the hard work carried out by the steering committee and the results are the fruit of everyone’s investment. »

The new generation coming up

Concerning local basketball players, Marc Risacher indicates that there are “promising young people” in the meeting. “One of the problems we have in training is the island syndrome where teams go around in circles. On the other hand, young Reunion Islanders are much less self-conscious and more motivated by the idea of going to France. This has the consequence that our regional championship is made up of older players. It’s more difficult for them than it was 10 years ago with globalization, because they are competing with players from all over the world. But they are strong in their basketball and their mentality”he explains.

For his part, Marc Risacher also has family succession. After his first three children who moved towards activities more artistic than sporting, his adopted son Shawn Tanner plays in Pro B within the Étoiles d’Angers, while Noah is in a training center in Marseille.

But for now, the whole family is focused around Zaccharie and his future in the NBA. The latter carried out workouts with the Atlanta Hawks, but also with the San Antonio Spurs, who would be interested in proposing an exchange with the team which will select him, before associating him with Victor Wembanyama. Answer next Wednesday.

  • Carlos Alcaraz (ATP 3) has to take a detour against Ugo Humbert (ATP 16), but is in the quarterfinals after a 6:3, 6:4, 1:6, 7:5.
  • Jannik Sinner (ATP 1) leaves Ben Shelton (ATP 14) no chance.
  • On the outdoor courts at Wimbledon, some matches have to be interrupted again due to the rain.

Playful and with fast legs: Carlos Alcaraz thrilled the crowd on Centre Court when he reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon – but then found himself in danger at times. The 21-year-old defending champion was the more complete professional in the almost three-hour duel with the aggressive Frenchman Ugo Humbert and won 6:3, 6:4, 1:6, 7:5.

A loss of tension in the third set cost Alcaraz an even quicker win, but Humbert then played well and sensed his chance of a surprise. After that, however, the Spaniard improved again and made it to the quarter-finals. There he will face Tommy Paul (USA) or Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP).

The world number one Jannik Sinner stopped the winning streak of American tennis pro Ben Shelton at Wimbledon. The 22-year-old Italian won in the round of 16 with 6:2, 6:4, 7:6 (11:9). In the fight for a place in the round of the best four, Sinner will face former US Open winner Daniil Medvedev from Russia or Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

As you can read on Football and Finance, the objective of the current shareholders group of the Celtics is to be able to proceed with a sale of the shares in a short time, or at the latest by the end of 2024 or the first months of 2025. Victory for Frenchman Anthony Turgis in the 9th stage

Published

Third French victory in the 2024 Grande Boucle. Anthony Turgis won the ninth stage of the Tour de France on Sunday, a 199-kilometre loop around Troyes (Aube). At the end of a crazy stage, Slovenian Tadej Pogacar retains the yellow jersey of leader in the general classification, ahead of Belgian Evenpoel and Dane Vingegaard.

And a third victory for France. Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies) won the ninth stage of the Tour de France 2024, that of the white paths, Sunday July 9, in Troyes (Aube).

Tadej Pogacar remains in yellow at the end of a completely crazy stage marked by numerous attacks and several “explanations” between favorites.

It was in a sprint that Turgis beat his breakaway companions to beat the Briton Tom Pidcock and the Canadian Derek Gee and secure the greatest victory of his career.

“It’s incredible, it’s been a long time since I won. I’ve been thinking about a big victory for years,” he exulted, very moved.

A specialist in the classics, the 30-year-old from the Paris region, who comes from a family of cyclists, had already taken second place in Milan-San Remo. He brings his TotalEnergies team its first victory in the Grande Boucle since that of Lilian Calmejane in 2017.

It is also the third French victory in this Tour, after those of Romain Bardet (DSM-Firmenich Postnl) and Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa-B&B Hotels) during the first two stages. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

This stage concludes, before the rest day on Monday, a great first week with also the record of victories of the Briton Mark Cavendish (Astana) (35 victory on the Tour) and the first of the Eritrean Biniam Girmay, as well as already some great battles for the yellow jersey.

After the Troyes stage, a total concentration of cycling, the general classification remains unchanged, with the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) maintaining a 33-second lead over the Belgian Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Steps), 1:15 over the Dane Jonas Vingegaard (Visma) and 1:36 over Primoz Roglic (Red Bull).

But the main favourites fought like rarely on the plain, like Pogacar who attacked twice in the last 22 kilometres without however managing to take off.

Evenepoel launched a very daring attack 70 km from the finish line, followed only by Pogacar and Vingegaard.

In a rare image on the Tour, the three men, isolated from the rest of the peloton, quickly returned to the breakaway before getting back up, cooled by the prospect of being cut off from their teammates on the dangerous wine-growing paths of the Aube, riddled with traps.

The breakaway, made up of strong riders, was then able to gain ground and in the end it was Anthony Turgis who proved to be the strongest.
