The essential A positive end to the season for the small Franciscan judo club with judokas who contribute to the pride of their teachers, managers and tireless supporters.

On June 22nd, at the Franciscan dojo, a new black belt was awarded to Martin Poreba, a judoka who was just fifteen years old. His unwavering determination allowed him to brilliantly validate all of his UVs, competition, sports commissioner, Kata and technical performance.

A enthusiast and a promising career for his coaches. “What a journey we’ve come and good times shared since the beginnings of Martin who discovered judo at the age of four on the tatami of the Francescas judo club. Because in addition to being a good fighter, his attachment and his investment in the life of the club have always been exemplary.”

Four workouts per week

Martin already has a full career. In 2023, he participated in the French junior cup and reached the round of 16. In May 2024, he reached the French espoir championship. He came out first in his groups and lost just before the round of 16. A very good student in the third year, he found the time to train hard, at least four times a week, in Francescas and Condom.

Thanks to his investment, he passed the selection tests on April 27 to join the Toulouse espoir center. This is a new step that will mark his life as a judoka and a source of pride for the teachers, Guillen Sarrabaig and Laurent Sarrabaig, who train him on Tuesdays and Fridays in Condom and on Wednesdays and Saturdays in Francescas. A 2024 season also marked by the results of Raphaël Roubin and Alexi Schroder who secured qualification for the Occitanie championships but also selected to participate in the French junior cup by departmental team with the Condom club.

Judo is still popular in Albret

The club also wanted to pay tribute to its senior fighters who shone in the colored belt tournaments: Adam Poreba first place in Dax and Temple-sur-Lot, Antoine Ferion, third in Temple-sur-Lot, like Cédric Ramadour and Brice Schroder, 2nd in Temple-sur-Lot.

The agreement between the clubs of Francescas and Condom for many years continues to give excellent results by allowing to form a united group in a sporty and friendly atmosphere. “A festive day to close the season before meeting again at the start of the school year with new grades, podiums and a few more black belts”. A certain enthusiasm for many young people who come to try their hand on the tatami.

Madison Keys Forced to Retire Due to Injury at Wimbledon, Jasmine Paolini Advances to Quarter-Finals

Published

A little drama unfolded on Court 1 at Wimbledon this Sunday. Madison Keys, in tears, had to resign herself to abandoning against Jasmine Paolini while she had narrowly escaped victory a few minutes earlier, leading 5-2 double break before injuring her left thigh and having to give up continuing this spectacular and emotional fight. The American, who had just conceded an ace, preferred to leave it there after 2 hours and 23 minutes of play, losing 6-3, 6-7(6), 5-5 (15-A) and letting her opponent slip away to her first quarter-final at Wimbledon. She will face another American, Coco Gauff or Emma Navarro.

The Roland-Garros finalist came within two points of victory in the deciding game of a second set that was already full of twists and turns, as she came back from 5-1, 40-15 down before losing on the wire. We thought we had settled the score. But that was without her extraordinary fighting spirit. And without the bad luck that struck Madison, of course. At 5-4, the latter left the court for a long medical timeout during which she had her left adductor strapped. But we quickly saw upon her return, when she could barely walk and push off on her legs, that it would be complicated. She tried to close on her serve but, once it was lost on a double fault, it was a lost cause.

A stroke of luck for the Italian but she fully deserves the good fortune that is currently accompanying her. She who had never won a match on grass before this year therefore follows a semi-final in Eastbourne with a first quarter-final here. She is the fifth Italian to reach the “big 8” in London after Laura Golarsa (1989), Silvia Farina Elia (2003), Francesca Schiavone (2009) and Camila Giorgi (2018).
