France-Belgium and the arrival of decisive matches: for Didier Deschamps, it’s his moment

Published

This is the story of a coach who has not lost a decisive match in international competition for ten years, in normal time. Since Germany-France (1-0) in 2014 at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro and a goal from Mats Hummels, higher than Raphaël Varane in his aerial duel. In ten years, only one extra time or two penalty shootouts have covered Didier Deschamps’ summer in gloomy weather, his head in disarray after a Euro 2016 or a 2022 World Cup soared into the skies of Saint-Denis and Doha.

France-Belgium is coming up this Monday, July 1st at the end of the day, the eighth-finals of this Euro and it’s his moment. These pivotal matches, which build an epic or send home, he knows all the pitfalls but also all the outcomes, with his unofficial status as “best coach in the history of the French team” – three finals in the last four tournaments, an unprecedented success in French football. Graphic Design Lover and Renowned Bassist Sues New York Jets Over Logo Design

Published

on

By

At 81 years old, Pons has said enough and has sued the New York Jets for using the logo that he himself designed in the late 70s. In addition to being a renowned bassist, Pons is a graphic design loverand he did not hesitate to present one of his drawings when he learned that the Jets were looking for a new image. He worked with them from 1973 to the early 2000s.starting as an assistant to the material manager, a position left behind by a friend who was leaving the city.

From there he went on to work in the Shea Stadiumwhere he became involved in the dynamics of the coaches. Considering that technology was evolving by leaps and bounds and that teams were beginning to make use of it, The Jets couldn’t afford to watch the games three days laterIt was then that Jim’s big opportunity came about, as, coming from California, where he had done small jobs in Hollywood, he was given the task of being in charge of the new “recording laboratory”, as they called it.

After the opportunity to work in the recording studio arose, Pons had a new visionsince the Jets They were looking for an update to their logo and he had it in his head. Until then, the team had worn a simple NY JETS on a football and inside the same oval shape that the ball has, but Jim would change everything: “I worked on the filming team and I had always seen the old design, which It seemed a bit confusing to me with so many letters intertwined; that’s when I heard they were thinking about having a new design and I thought, ‘Maybe I can do something they’ll like because I’m part of the staff and I know the idiosyncrasies of the organization’ and that’s how it all began, lengthening and stylizing the word JETS and inserting an airplane modified on the last few letters. I gave it to them, they liked it and made it the team logo.”

The root of the problem

Jim Pons’ logo over the old Jets logo

It all happened very quickly, organically, and It never occurred to Jim to ask for financial compensation. some to the team for the logo design. Let’s say that, back then, He did it “for the love of art” already some colors; “love” that seems to have forgotten when now JETS are marketing it with great success on their kits, souvenirs and all kinds of merchandising imaginable. It is worth highlighting Pons’ words in a short 8 minute videothat the team posted on their channel Youtube just before the logo was re-installed as the official image: “When I was told that the JETS were thinking about going back to my logo I got surprised; I didn’t know anything about their intentions, or even how popular they were within the fan base, or that they were the ones who asked for their return. It made me feel good and I like it, I think it’s the best logo they’ve ever had. I’m self-taught, I didn’t know how to play bass and I taught myself; I didn’t know how to record movies and I learned and I didn’t know how to design logos, and I got pretty good at it without any help“.

In the lawsuit, Pons claims that the original design of the JETS logo belongs to him and that He was never paid for itand asks that it be immediately removed from the club’s merchandise or that they pay him good financial compensation “now that they are making millions” from it.

Planned without air conditioning, the Olympic village, which is to accommodate more than 10,000 athletes during the Paris Olympics, will be adorned with mobile air conditioners, with the delegations having ordered nearly 2,500 units for the 7,000 rooms that will be used, the village’s deputy director assured on Tuesday.

“The goal was really to meet this extremely specific need for athletes who are playing the match or competition of their lives (…) and who may have comfort and recovery requirements that are higher than a standard summer. Some delegations worried in case of heatwave

The delegations also have the possibility of coming with their mobile air conditioners: “we gave them guides on technical constraints, in particular for energy consumption and the level A quality of their equipment, to have material that is up to date”, specified Augustin Tran Van Chau.

The deputy director assures that he has encouraged the delegations to take “one air conditioner per dwelling” maximum, but there is no guarantee that this advice will be followed.
