At 81 years old, Pons has said enough and has sued the New York Jets for using the logo that he himself designed in the late 70s. Until then, the team had worn a simple NY JETS on a football and inside the same oval shape that the ball has, but Jim would change everything: “I worked on the filming team and I had always seen the old design, which It seemed a bit confusing to me with so many letters intertwined; that’s when I heard they were thinking about having a new design and I thought, ‘Maybe I can do something they’ll like because I’m part of the staff and I know the idiosyncrasies of the organization’ and that’s how it all began, lengthening and stylizing the word JETS and inserting an airplane modified on the last few letters. I gave it to them, they liked it and made it the team logo.”

In the lawsuit, Pons claims that the original design of the JETS logo belongs to him and that He was never paid for itand asks that it be immediately removed from the club’s merchandise or that they pay him good financial compensation “now that they are making millions” from it.
