Deserved victory against France: Thanks to Olmo and Yamal – Spain moves into the final

Status: 09.07.2024 23:53

In a thrilling semi-final, Spain beat France, with goalscorer Lamine Yamal writing European Championship history.

The arms went up in the air before the tired bodies collapsed exhausted to the ground. This 2-1 (2-1) victory of Spain against France on Tuesday evening (July 9, 2024) in the semi-finals of the 2024 European Championship had cost a lot of energy. But the team of coach Luis de la Fuente had earned and fought for this triumph. The Spaniards are now the first European Championship finalists.

The “Furia Roja” also set a record: No team has ever won six games in a row at the European Championships. Lamine Yamal (21st minute) and Dani Olmo (25th) scored the goals for Spain. Randal Kolo Muani (9th) had initially put the French in the lead.

“There is one more step missing, it is unbelievable. We deserve to be in the final,” said Spain’s goalscorer Olmo.

Coach Deschamps as a fair loser

While the Iberians were celebrating, disappointment was written all over the French faces. Coach Didier Deschamps’ team showed full commitment and passion, but they lacked spirit and precision, especially in attack.

“The team that gave the better impression won,” said Deschamps, admitting that he was a fair loser. “Perhaps we lacked a bit of freshness. We didn’t play forward enough.”

Ruiz with early chance to take the lead

As expected, the Spanish immediately took the initiative. The French initially retreated and, as they had done throughout the tournament, built a defensive line.

But the tactics of the “Equipe Tricolore” almost went wrong early on. After a cross from young star Lamine Yamal, Fabian Ruiz’s header from close range was too inaccurate after five minutes.

Spain only briefly shocked

And coach Deschamps’ team suddenly showed an efficiency that was previously unknown in these weeks of the European Championship. The very first shot on goal led to a 1-0 lead for the French. Kilian Mbappé, who was playing without a protective mask for the first time since breaking his nose, crossed from the left side of the penalty area to fellow attacker Kolo Muani, who headed the ball into the net from five meters and made it unstoppable.

However, the Spaniards had previously seen a handball when Mbappé received the ball. The scene was reviewed by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), and referee Slavko Vincic decided that the goal was correctly scored. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

The Spaniards only seemed shocked for a moment and immediately tried to take control again. The French remained dangerous at first with their fast attackers. Superstar Mbappé in particular really turned things on for the first time and tore through the Spanish defense, even if he lacked precision in his finishing. But this enthusiasm did not last long.

Lamal with a great shot

On the other hand, he showed what is probably the greatest talent in world football at the moment, which is why many experts already see the 16-year-old from FC Barcelona as the legitimate successor to Lionel Messi. With a shot from 20 meters into the top left corner of the goal, Yamal beat the helpless French goalkeeper Mike Maignan to make it 1:1. This makes Yamal the youngest European Championship goalscorer of all time – a real gem.

“The deficit came about because of an unfortunate situation, but we didn’t give up and just kept going. And Lamine scored an incredible goal,” said Olmo.

“I didn’t think about it for long and just left. I’m very, very happy,” said Yamal. “We want to win, win, win.” On Saturday, the day before the final, the young Spaniard celebrates his 17th birthday. “I wanted to celebrate my birthday in Germany. Now I can,” said Yamal with a broad grin on his face.

Spain remains dominant

This goal clearly inspired coach de la Fuente’s team. The Spaniards continued to play courageously and used their great energy. Just four minutes later they took the lead 2-1. The goal was preceded by a great individual effort by Dani Olmo, who skilfully outmaneuvered two opponents in the French penalty area and finished with a powerful low shot from seven meters.

The Spanish continued to dominate the game and had further opportunities. Ruiz’s shot was deflected at the last moment and thus rendered harmless, as was Yamal’s next attempt at a curling shot. The French increased their offensive intensity, but did not create a scoring opportunity.

Counterattack by the French

The Iberians continued where they had left off in the second half. They had more possession and let the ball and the opponents run. France mostly seemed to be lacking in ideas. When they approached the opponents’ penalty area, their crosses and passes did not find their own teammates. Spain appeared stable and organized defensively, leaving the French hardly any room to maneuver.

The only time the Spaniards were in danger in this phase of the game was when they lost possession in midfield. But the French attacker Ousmane Dembélé was unable to capitalize on his speed with a precise finish.

No penetrating power

At least: Deschamps’ team increased the pressure and came ever closer to scoring a second goal. But the French lacked offensive power – as they had throughout the tournament. The Spanish defended their lead with great effort and skill and left the field as winners. Alvaro Morata was limping – he had been accidentally tackled by a steward who had actually been chasing a streaker.

In the second semi-final in Dortmund between the Netherlands and England, it will be decided on Wednesday (July 10, 2024, from 8:15 p.m. in the live stream, in the live ticker and in the radio report) who Spain will face in the final on Sunday in Berlin’s Olympic Stadium.

Purpose of this tournament

① I want to support my child’s growth.

Children do not grow by practicing for the sake of practicing. Experience in serious matches strongly supports children’s growth. We eliminate starting lineups and substitutes, and give all players the opportunity to play with equal playing time.

2) To let people know the benefits of team sports (one team).

We have introduced a system where even if you can’t win by individual strength, you can win against a strong opponent if you work as a team. We want people to know the greatness of team sports (one team) where everyone can cover up for individual mistakes.

3) I want to encourage my children’s initiative and independence.

Coaches are not allowed to get angry. Coaches are not allowed to give instructions from the bench except during halftime and timeouts. Coaches are encouraged to praise players for good plays.

Football crisis: FIGC meeting, Abodi will not be present – Football

The meeting between the president of the FIGC, Gabriele Gravina, and the federal components to discuss the electoral weights will not see the presence of the minister for sport and youth Andrea Abodi. As ANSA has learned, the minister, after having had several discussions with the parties involved, will not be present at the meeting in via Allegri.

A chess game in which each player aims to make his own move without exposing himself too much. It will not be the moment of checkmate today when, in view of the elections of next November 4, all the components, summoned by the president of the FIGC, Gabriele Gravina, will meet around a table to seek a point of agreement.

The object of contention is the new remodulation of the weights of Serie A in the electoral percentage phase in light of the Mulé amendment. It promises to be a tug of war because Serie B has also joined the Lega di A by deciding (unanimously in the assembly urgently convened this evening) to challenge at the National Federal Court the resolution with which the federal council decided to confirm the weights between the various components for the election of the next FIGC president.

The meeting will be attended by the president of Lega Serie A, Lorenzo Casini, that of Lega B, Mauro Balata as well as Matteo Marani for Lega Pro, Giancarlo Abete for Lnd. Then there will be Umberto Calcagno to represent the players, Renzo Ulivieri for the coaches and Carlo Pacifici for the referee component. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

Serie A, in particular, and now Serie B are also waiting for answers after the announcement by president Casini of the intention to challenge the federal resolution. A card to be played, if necessary, but which does not represent “a hostile act but a technical defense. If the discussions were to be positive, we are ready to withdraw it”, Casini admitted. Serie B, following the same path, has given a mandate to its president, Mauro Balata, who in the last federal council had already expressed himself against the resolution, evaluating the need to wait for the approval of the ‘sports decree’. Balata himself had underlined the risk of going to FIGC elections with regulations that conflict and are certainly not adequate with the provision of the law that could come into force in the next few days. As for Serie A, it is certainly no mystery, in fact, that the request of the representatives of the highest Italian professional league is to arrive at a different distribution of federal weights with a preponderant weight recognized to Lega Serie A, together with a model of greater autonomy. In essence, therefore, the request is to see the current weight of 12% recognized to the top division increased to approximately double. A condition considered fundamental, but which will necessarily have to see one of the other components give up something. The time is tight, every discussion must be concluded by September 4, that is, 60 days before the elective assembly scheduled for November 4. Also on the table is the so-called “right of agreement”, that is, the possibility for the clubs to have a veto on every decision of the Football Federation regarding Serie A. It is likely that the game will not end with tomorrow’s meeting, others will be needed to find a definitive agreement but in the meantime the game has already begun.
