Kenyan President Ruto Sacks Cabinet Amid Protests

William Ruto, the President of Kenya has sacked his cabinet with immediate effect.

 

He made the announcement two weeks after protesters took to the streets to demand Ruto’s resignation.

“I have decided to dismiss with immediate effect all the cabinet secretaries and the Attorney General of the cabinet of Kenya, except the prime cabinet secretary and cabinet secretary for diaspora affairs.

“The office of the vice president is not affected in any way,” Ruto said in a televised address on Thursday.

 

Ruto also promised there would be extensive consultations across different sectors and political formations to set up a “broad-based” government that will assist him in dealing with the burden of debt, raising domestic resources, eliminating waste and corruption in government and expanding job opportunities for the youth.

The Nigerian Senate has made a pledge to expose all the saboteurs in the nation’s petroleum sector and those responsible for the importation of toxic fuel into the country.

The Senate ad-hoc committee constituted to investigate the alleged economic sabotage in the Nigerian Petroleum Industry made this vow on Thursday at a press conference in Abuja.

The chairman of the ad-hoc committee, who is also the Majority Leader of the Senate, Opeyemi Bamidele, read the text of the press conference, flanked by all members of the panel.

“In line with our mandate, we will definitely unravel the roots of economic sabotage in Nigeria’s petroleum industry and make necessary recommendations that will entrench global best practices in the industry and open it up for more investments, especially in the midstream and downstream sectors.

“We shall be fair and just to all parties with a view to promoting and protecting the strategic national interests of our fatherland.”
