The NBA has finally finalised all the details of its new broadcast rights contract, which becomes the largest ever signed by the league. With a duration of 11 years and a total value of 76 billion dollars, this agreement sets a record both in amount and length, ensuring a stable future for the competition and all those who make it up. By way of comparison, the current contract already broke both records with a duration of nine years and a total of 24 billion dollars, figures, especially the latter, now far surpassed.

This agreement will come into effect in the 25-26 season, and will allow the entry of Amazon Prime as the league’s broadcasting platform. The company enters at the expense of leaving out the TNTwhich, barring a last-minute change, will lose the rights to a competition that it has been broadcasting since the 1980s. For its part, ESPN, ABC y NBC Yes, they remain part of the agreement.

In the short term, this contract is expected to allow maximum player salaries to grow at a rate of 10% per year, which is the cap set by the new collective agreement. If this is the case, it is possible that in the 1930s we will see players signing contracts worth 100 million per season, confirming the massive escalation of the salaries of the league’s superstars.

Whether this news also means an extension remains to be seen, however, as it is no secret that this has been one of Adam Silver’s plans for some time and this massive agreement could allow for it. The commissioner has already addressed two of his recent challenges with apparent success, namely this contract and the collective bargaining agreement, giving him the green light for projects such as adding new franchises to the NBA.

European Football Championship: UEFA punishes seven national associations for racism at the European Championship

The European Football Union (UEFA) has imposed fines on seven national associations following racist incidents at the European Championships in Germany. The association announced this in a statement. The associations affected are Albania, Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Romania, Croatia and Serbia, as their fans were noticed for racist behaviour at matches in the tournament in June and July. In some cases, UEFA also imposed a ban on the sale of tickets for the next away match in a UEFA competition.

According to the association, Croatia must pay 50,000 euros, Romania 40,000 and Serbia, Slovenia, Albania and Hungary 30,000 each. Austria was fined 20,000 euros.

The punishment against Austria relates to the match against Poland on June 21, as the Austrian news agency APA reported, citing the national association. According to the report, it was about a banner held up in the fan block with the inscription “Defend Europe” – the title of a campaign by the right-wing extremist Identitarian Movement. The banner cannot be attributed to the organized fan scene of the national team, the Austrian association announced after the match.

There is a possibility that North Korea will strike at the origins of leaflet scattering by domestic civic groups, but the government does not plan to request that the groups refrain from scattering leaflets.

A Ministry of Unification official met with reporters at the government complex in Seoul on the 25th and said about concerns about North Korea’s artillery attack, “In the past, North Korea has threatened to strike at the source of anti-North Korea leaflets, so I think the relevant groups are aware of that situation.”

When asked whether they would request self-restraint in scattering leaflets due to concerns about the possibility of artillery fire from North Korea, a Unification Ministry official responded, “This has already been reported and the groups themselves are probably well aware of it,” reaffirming their existing policy of not directly requesting self-restraint.
