The Supreme Court has granted full financial autonomy to Local Government areas.

The apex court ruled that henceforth, the Federal Government should pay any money standing to the credit of the Local Governments in the Federation directly to the Local Government Areas managed by democratically elected officials.

In a lead judgment by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the apex court has also held that it is unconstitutional for State Governments to retain and use allocation meant for the LGAs on their behalf without transferring same to them as provided in Section 162(3) of the Constitution. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, explained that the Supreme Court’s proceedings had not yet been communicated to the Attorney General of the Federation for proper study and implementation.

The Federal Government has not yet begun the direct disbursement of monthly allocations to Nigeria’s 774 local government areas.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, explained that the Supreme Court’s proceedings had not yet been communicated to the Attorney General of the Federation for proper study and implementation.

Recall that on July 11, 2024, a seven-man panel of the Supreme Court granted financial autonomy to the local governments, a decision opposed by some state governors.

The apex court emphasised the division of government power into three tiers: federal, state, and local governments.

The Federation Account Allocation Committee held its monthly meeting last week, which was supposed to mark the start of the direct disbursement of funds to the LGAs. READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>

According to Leadership, the FG said it has yet to commence direct payment to the respective LGs due to some “practical impediments.”

Edun highlighted that the process is still in its early stages, and further steps will be taken once the full details are available.

He stated that a committee has been set up by the FG to look at the practicability of the judgement.

“The actual proceeding has not been handed down to the AGF,” Edun stated on Thursday at a quarterly media briefing on recent economic activities in the country.

Saturday PUNCH gathered that allocations from the Federation Account to the 774 LGs have increased by N900bn in the last 12 months.

Rod Stewart’s wife Penny Lancaster blasted online at 53, fans say tiny bikini unflattering

Penny Lancaster, Rod Stewart’s wife, has received a barrage of criticism after being photographed wearing a tiny bikini on a yacht off the coast of Sardinia, Italy.

Some fans claim the stunning blonde is “sagging” and “drooping” in the swimwear, which “is not flattering,” while others note the 53-year-old model may not be “wow” and there’s “no need for name calling.”

Rod Stewart took some time off from his hectic tour schedule to spend with his enormous family in Sardinia, Italy.

“Another amazing family holiday together (a few were sadly missed) in the [Mediterranean] bonding, healing, love, and laughter,” writes Lancaster, who married the actor in 2007, in an Instagram post. The tweet includes a photo of the 79-year-old “Maggie May” singer with his sons Aiden, 13, and Alastair, 18, as well as his daughters Ruby, 37, and Kimberly, 44.

His grandson, Otis, who is just over a year old, and his two sons-in-law, Adam Sumner and Jake Alick, were also present.

“We like to take every opportunity to bring the family, children, and grandchildren together,” Lancaster tells Hello! in a July 2024 interview. “Part of the family lives in America, part in England, so it requires a lot of planning, but at least two or three times a year, the whole clan comes together.”

‘Wrong bikini top’

Before returning to the Colosseum at Caesars Palace for his Las Vegas engagement, the patriarch and his wife were photographed enjoying the sun on a $65 million super yacht at Porto Cervo, an Italian coastal town in northern Sardinia, Italy.

Stewart, the singer of “Tonight’s the Night,” shielded his face from the hot sun with a towel and was dressed in a lemon-colored button-down short-sleeved shirt.

Lancaster, who met the “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy” singer in 1999 while still married to model Rachel Hunter, did not hide her magnificent 53-year-old physique.

The adoring wife, dressed in a small halter neck black bikini with her blonde hair put into a ponytail, was seen playing in the crystal clear waters or reclining on the deck of the luxury yacht.

While debating Lancaster’s appearance online, some fans asked the mother of two to reconsider her wardrobe choices.

“Observing the sagging drooping wrinkled up mammary sack barley restrained by stretching to the maximum material…””It would be more like Ewwww,” tweets one critic.

“Wrong bikini top,” says another. A third, in reference to Lancaster’s modeling past, comments, “For a woman who was famous for wearing clothes for a living, she is sorely letting the side down.” She should not only hire a stylist before going out in public, but she should also understand that ‘just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.

“Leave her alone, they are on holiday on their yacht not a public beach,” snipes another.

Fashion icon

On July 12, the London-born singer hyped up fans for his return to Caesars Palace with a post that shows him sitting on the yacht, wearing a black and white striped short suit.

He composes: “All striped up on me holidays and looking forward to [Caesars Palace] in Las Vegas 24th July till the 7th of August.”

The suit is a modernized version of one he wore in 1973, one of several “anything but subtle” ensembles that won him Vogue’s label of “fashion icon.”
